They could overtake the UK in terms of deaths, who knows. But it's pretty impressive that they have 1 million more cases yet 20k less deaths.

Comparing one countries “performance “ with another’s at this stage is just stupid. Rates of testing, methods of recording deaths or cases etc will all be different. When this is all over and the data is analysed and studied in more depth we may get a better idea.

I think most people didn't need it confirmed from WHO that being indoors in a public setting for any length of time was a danger to us. That's why restaurants and pubs have been slammed shut and why they should remain slammed shut.

It's that league table mentality that causes it.

I think it's criminal that all air traffic from India wasn't banned as soon as the variant became known.
Like they were doing flights from Wuhan weeks after the outbreak became serious there.

Yep. There is a HUGE amount of people in the UK that travel back and forth from India all year round. It needs to be stopped immediately. Problem is also stopping travelers from non direct flights.

Not all of hospitality is owned by multi nationals though.

What about the tens of thousands of independent, privately owned cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs. The little theatre venues, the small concert venues, wedding venues.

Some of whom haven’t been open for the best part of six months now.

My mate whose family own the Glass House in Stanley Park and paid for all the beautiful renovations, haven’t been open since March 2020.

Do we just shrug as they go to the wall ?

Yes many of the cheaper flights to S Asia involve a change in the gulf region.
