Not all of hospitality is owned by multi nationals though.

What about the tens of thousands of independent, privately owned cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs. The little theatre venues, the small concert venues, wedding venues.

Some of whom haven’t been open for the best part of six months now.

My mate whose family own the Glass House in Stanley Park and paid for all the beautiful renovations, haven’t been open since March 2020.

Do we just shrug as they go to the wall ?
They care as much now about it as they did in Thatcher time.

Mate ......I know. Just have to get on with it. 3 or 4 weeks after the 17th and I will start to panic money wise. xx I mean panic for the winter x
How's the vaccinations going in Rhodes and the infection rate ,ive been trying to keep an eye on it but everything is a bit out of date.
Hopefully 3 weeks will make a difference.

What's very impressive is that France have so many COVID cases but they haven't got proportionately a lot of deaths. In comparison to the UK, they have a million more cases yet around 20k less deaths. It must demonstrate the prowess of the French healthcare system.
This isn’t some daft video game mush. Take your point scoring and hate of the English elsewhere.

So with hospitality closing for good. What are the 3.2 million ex-hospitality workers going to do to survive?
We've been through this: they got furlough payments' and if that's stopped, it's a political decision to end furlough before the pandemic ends.

In short: if the political will is there to do the right thing and keep on paying poorly paid workers in a health crisis then the problem of 'surviving' doesn't exist.

In Liverpool, I'd suspect it's nowhere near a vast majority are big companies although that's merely a quick analysis of the places I know and frequent.

Even the larger companies in the pub trade, like Punch or Greene King, involve lots of individual people or families who rely on the sector.

But they didnt get furlough payments.

Wetherspoons simply sacked everyone.

@davek what are your thoughts on the recently announced green list? I'm worried for the hundreds of thousands of people who work in aviation, a lot of them will be struggling for work due to the limited number of destinations on the list.

Surely trips to Portugal cannot keep an industry operating. For me we need to hope that Greece, Spain etc get a decent number vaccinated and then massively increase the number of flights.

My thought, as always, are dominated by health over wealth.

There should be no international holiday travel at all. That's the conclusion of a cross party select committee and many health professionals.

Can we ban davek from this thread? Puts me in a state of depression every day that fella
Sorry if trying to save people's lives depresses you.

Maybe I should jazz it up a bit and tell everyone to run into a care home and start sneezing and coughing?
