I don’t know if there’s any definitive number that scientists agree equates to herd immunity. If it’s as low as 75% like some have claimed, then once the vaccines are approved for all ages, then it feels possible we reach that threshold eventually. If it’s closer to 90% like others have speculated, then no, America won’t be reaching herd immunity.

The figure varies depending on which expert you ask but most seem to think somewhere between 65%-80%.

Hopefully more people end up getting it than the media think.

I generally try to be optimistic but in this instance I sadly think it will become a problem with reaching herd immunity, certainly on a regional basis but likely overall.

Of particular concern is the percentage of front line healthcare workers who, at least so far, seem vaccine hesitant.

Yeah, it's strange how it works.

You'd think they'd be really up for getting it.

Seems like the vaccine is working really well so hopefully the vaccination effort doesn't slow down too much.

Too small at present...
Significantly lower...

24m people in this country live in areas with no COVID deaths in the last month mate.

But the virus is still here, and that's not just because of freaks and antivaxxers who I agree are divvies but what can you do? It's everyone's choice what they put in their bodies. I don't agree with their reasoning but at some stage we do have to go back to normal as we're slowly approaching right now in the UK.

We have to get back to normal because the virus isn't going anywhere. All we can do is live with it. For now that means precautions, and I imagine this coming winter it will mean precautions/some restrictions and additional booster shots for those that need them. But long term, it's about getting the virus down to something as about as dangerous as flu is to the vast majority of people. The vaccines are going to help massively with that - and seemingly already are.
Same here in Spain, where I live the contagion is relatively low,but the crunch will come Christmas when the city dwellers who tend to have higher levels of the virus hit the beach and the countryside.
