Are we agreed here that the vast amount of advice that the UK scientific community has handed to government has been ignored on the crucial issues of lockdown - both in Feb/March last year and later in the autumn?

The utter blizzard of BS that some peopke will throw at the issue of blame and responsibilty is mind boggling.

let me spell it out to you really clearly:

IF YOU'RE THE PM OF THE UK AND A HUMAN CATASTROPHE OCCURS ON THESE ISLANDS ON YOUR WATCH, THEN YOU HAVE FAILED AND, THEREFORE, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.

It really is THAT simple.

But dont let me stop you continuing to deflect.

Almost everyone in here understands the difficulties we have so far been through, the mistakes that have been made, and no one really underestimates that we are not there yet. Yet only you seem to want to make it political (anti Tory and also anti U.K.) as well as decrying the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine (U.K.), while forever telling us that we in the U.K. are crap (including the vaccination centre you went to), while telling us how well all of Europe, China and the Far East have performed, and that out of the 2,850,000 people that have died it’s only Boris who you describe as a murderer, not even those in Scotland, Wales or NI, just Boris. Now I might be wrong here, but I’m beginning to suspect that you don’t really like Boris...call it a hunch.....

I phoned the caravan site we normally stay at in Polzeath, just on the off chance - fully booked until they shut in October, with a stand by list !!!

Ps - pre kids, we ate over priced muck at Steins St Petroc gaff.

The over priced muck was beautiful and it’s a lovely place too.

Yeah been there too mate which is why we were happy to book in again.

We've never been to the seafood Restaurant so it would have been nice. We could have booked in for lunch but they only do limited menu.

Tbf I don't think governments - any government - should be congratulated for doing its basic job which is protecting people.

They cocked up massively. Fortunately, the vaccine roll out is going really very well and is showing just how great it is to have a system like the NHS in place.

All of the above can be true and nobody needs to be called a murderer or also given a pat on the back for doing what needed to be done to get us out of this mess.

I think it's like anything in life. Your accountable for all actions good or bad.

I lay much of the blame at the hands of Boris et Al for the awful decisions taken but its pathetic that @davek will label them murderers yet not even acknowledge their existence when it comes to the vaccine programme.

I bet if it wasn't a success then Johnson etc wouldn't have been absolved of any contribution towards it.

No idea if that’s off, as it looks like everywhere half decent in the U.K. is booked solid.

Looks like people aren’t too scared to come out of their bunkers after all.

No Dave we aren't agreed. The government pretty much took the advice of the scientists on everything for the first few months. It's all in the SAGE minutes Dave.

Since the summer I agree that they haven't. They got a lot wrong in the first following advice. And then they got a lot wrong later when not following advice.

You could say that the scientists learned form their mistakes but the government didn't.

To be honest, I gave the Government a lot of leeway to start off with. They were getting major decisions wrong, but I supported them because they were following the scientific advice and we were still learning about the virus so I accepted that mistakes were to some extent expected and, whilst they cost lives, at least we could learn from them. That ended with the Cummings debacle and subsequently moving away from the science.

But they have done well with the vaccine rollout and I'm also supporting them with the road map out of lockdown.

Spare me the sophistry.

Ferguson was telling the government in February that half a million would be killed if a lockdown didn't happen. It was in the SAGE minutes on 27th February. Johnson locked down on 23rd March. Criminal. And there's more to the scientific community than SAGE. The former Chief Medical Officer, Dave King, was scathing of Johnson not locking down in late February/early March. That's why Independent SAGE was formed. Johnson is a man who couldn't be arsed turning up to COBRA meetings in February before this struck our shores - he wasn't even looking for advice, much less being guided by it.

He dropped the ball in both February/March and then again in the autumn. No ifs or buts.

The attempt to cover up that scumbag's crimes is not a very good look.

That is BS. There are plenty of people on here who correctly put this disaster at the door of Johnson and his corrupt and incompetent cronies...something you would never do - while laughably accusing me of partisanship.
