Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Not even close. That's a euro-centric view of this. In other words, in a basket case consumer-led society we need vaccine because there's no stomach for the fight: suppressing the virus by compelling individuals to bow to the greater good.

The vaccines should be there to aid that fight, not lead it. And I doubt there's a leading health spokesnam in SAGE who'd disagree with that.

Really ?

Every measure aids the fight , but none come close to the vaccine's if we want to get some semblance of a life back.
The world & his dog know's that.

The vaccines wont see the virus off anytime soon. The global population would need to take the vaccines in order to shut down the space in which the virus can mutate to something beyond what the vaccines can protect us from. Most variants will be containable by this first generation of vaccine, but scientists are already concerned about 'Covid 2.0': an altogether more deadly virus. That's why suppression is the key weapon in the fight right now. The vaccines can stop the transmission engine in nations where the take up of vaccine is high, but that's only a very small proportion of the global population and we are a global economy and variants from abroad can get in even here and still cause havoc.

Suppression through track and trace, social distancing and masks, and treatment of the virus through therepeutics are the armoury that we need to be leading with until we have a world where the vast majority have had vaccine pumped into it.

I actually agree with most of that. Its probably why the Uk has maxed out on the vax programme, whilst maintaining the restrictions for pretty much 4 months now.

A huge % of the 9 most vulnerable groups have had 1 dose, the 2nd will be ramped up in the run up to June. And the vast majority of those folk will now have an immune system being taught how to recognise and protect their body from CV.

Wonder how many journalists are out there today taking photographs at dodgy angles to make people look closer together?

tbf I've seen loads of vids from people I know on social media who live in Leeds and Manchester and, while they all appear to be in small groups, the parks are heaving like you wouldn't believe. Looks like a festival.

It's no surprise, like. And I can't blame people. But it wouldn't be too hard to make those groups look close together. They were.

It was the same thing with the family they dug out over Christmas, where five of them had met up in the same house for Christmas dinner and two of them tragically later died, blaming the government for not " stopping " them.

Completely ignoring the fact that people had been strongly advised not to travel to family members outside of their immediate family and also the fact that the rules stated no more than four could meet up on Christmas Day !!!
Personal responsibility - it's not a thing anymore.

We saw that a few weeks ago with the Sarah Everard stuff.

For example, I know that today, I could have legally gone and sat in the local park (Well, it's round a lake) and join the other super-spreaders in their groups of six. But, really, I don't think it's worth the risk. I've come to my mum and dad's - only other house I've been going to - and would rather not risk anything daft for the sake of sitting and drinking some warm lager next to a load of chavs.

Obviously, it's gonna be good to be able to see my mates properly again when we can get them round in the garden and stuff.

...and it's still not enough...which is what makes the breast beating over national tables and vaccines ridiculous.

I never really had an urge to sit in a park pre covid if I am honest. But that said, even though our lives here wont really be changed come what may, restrictions wise, it was nice to see a few more folk doing just that when I drove past it earlier today.

Will be nice to some kids playing footie at the weekend as well.

I have never done that, cos its ridiculous. I am very very pleased how we have rolled out ours, but it would be brill if it was the same elsewhere. Why that isnt is the case, I have no idea.

Like I said the other day, once the vax programme is done, (it wont ever be "done" btw), I would have no issue with SD and masks every autumn and winter. The impact on stuff like flu that we have just accepted for ever, could be massive.
