This popped up on my local paper earlier. Pretty sure it would have done on loads across the country.

It shows the actual CV deaths after a year of it, drilled down to very very local areas. Just pop yours in the white box, and there you have it.

16 COVID deaths where my mum and dad live (and I lived up until July last year).

19 COVID deaths where I live now.

And we've been in lockdown since the end of October, now :)

6 for us. Just over 9% of all deaths......

Mine was 26. In an area rammed full of the elderly. And we had a terrible 2 weeks early on when 15 died across 4 villages. So 11 in 49 weeks.

Those facts, plus the vaccines, equal a future.

Yeah, my mum and dad's area is definitely older on average I'd say too.

I know it all adds up, but it really does put it into perspective. I'm not saying we shouldn't have locked down, etc etc, it's just, hard to grasp too.

But we're in it now but hopefully looking at the other side.

You can kinda get the vax programme a bit better cant you? I havnt trawled the whole country, but from what I have seen is a circa 20%, give or take, of all deaths being CV related. Those age groups having cover, then no doubt a booster, protects them, and enables the country to slowly get back on our feet.

The problem is that a number of European countries have very worrying exponential rises. This pretty much signals theyre in a third wave already or are about to be engulfed by one. Not just one country but across much of continental Europe.

France for a long time was only using the AZ vaccine in the under 65s, although this changed before the pause the older age groups remain suspicious with numbers refusing. They've now restarted only for the over 55's but with the over 65's already being alienated it's in effect only for the 55-65 age group, what a mess. You can't really blame the EU but you can blame that clown Macron.

The figures are moving in the right direction here but not across the channel were it's extremely worrying. If Europe is badly hit we won't stay immune.

It's estimated our R rate is between 0.6 and 0.9, it won't take much to raise that and reinfection from Europe is an increasing danger.

We wont be immune, obvs. The scientists have repeatedly said a rising infection rate is expected, but with the vast majority of the 99% who "usually" clog up the NHS, and/or die, having a decent level of protection from Covid, I guess the game has changed a bit.

These last few weeks with Europe being slower, (for whatever reason) on their vax programmes are gonna kick them in the plums it seems. That will impact on the R here; but, not with serious widespread issues.

Similar to what I was thinking. Unless there is a variant issue impacting the effectiveness of the vaccine we are in a good position in terms of keeping hospital admissions down. Although cases will inevitably spike as we unlock

Its pretty clear that an awful lot of clever folk in lab coats are monitoring all sorts of data and proteins and sequencing all the time.

Fact is, circa 80% of folk last year died not from Covid. None of the 20% who did, didnt have a vax. Now, those age groups largely do.

All the kids have been back at school/uni for two weeks now, and while the daily numbers have flattened and may even rise a bit, our graphs and numbers are looking good. We have given nearly 40% of all adults a first vaccine and 3% a second. These were the groups that made up previous hospital admissions. I’m sure the government will find a way to keep the vaccine coming and if we do we will beat this.....

Stats can dehumanise it.

If you think about it, you could fill Goodison Park up three times with the people who have died from this, with countless other stadiums full of people seriously ill/grieving a dead relative.

But with a populace of 66m it's still a statistical drop in the ocean.
