Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Obviously (besides a few nuts spouting nonsense out there) this isn't an extinction level or doomsday event or even near that. I am certainly not meaning to promote that.

But it could be a big problem for health systems if taken lightly...and by that I mean treat it like the flu where people don't self isolate, etc. We honestly don't have the capacity if people were to ignore quarantines.

This is as "mild" a global event as it is because so far countries have quarantined aggressively which we do not do during flu outbreaks.

*hopes this isn't more bait

The thing is, the excessive sensationalism of the reporting is akin to a zombie apocalypse with this thing, even when in reality it's just a strong cold. So I don't think people are being dismissive when saying "it just kills the old"; they're just trying to counterbalance the media who have gone ridiculously over the top with it.

Sky News today for example - breaking story - "some politician in Iran catches a cold". Its insane - its just looking for every excuse to keep the panic levels at 11.

But just because it isn't the end of the world doesn't mean there isn't reason to be worried. The stock markets don't react the way they have without good reason, containment is vital.

Agree media is sensationalizing it

If the constant media attention notches up any further, it will begin to resemble the mid 80s cold-war fervent and "Protect and Survive"

Of course it shouldn't be taken lightly but it seems a lot of anxiety is being built up.

My parents are in their 70s and are looking on at the media reports with growing worry, and I think this is the same for the majority of older people, or those in other higher-risk groups.

RIP. The stress on healthcare workers and emergency managers, even when things seem to be being handled well as in S Korea, must be immense.

They eve cancelled the st Patrick’s day parade here in Dublin.

Now it’s personal.
