Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Something dodgy going on here. The word has been that the system was briefed to massively increase jabs this week onwards; now the reverse is the case.

Why?

Either there's been a significant drop off at one of the AZ plants or the UK now can't get the Moderna supply they'd agreed... That seems to be the only real options?

As long as people get their second dose, that's what matters - and stopping new bookings in April at least should ensure that.

I'm gutted though. Not about me getting the jab, but just think this will end up being used as yet another reason to push things back.

Don’t see what they’d have to gain by lying - they’ve been remarkably frank on the subject of supply/rollout so far, if there was a real issue I presume they’d just say as much - it’s not like it’s something they can control.

Because it was leaked a matter of minutes before this presser. Hancock caught completely cold by it, his body language went stiffer, talked slower and more deliberately. He was jumping on questions he was more comfortable with enthusiastically.

I admit I can't be sure obviously, but my instinct is he was bluffing his head off there.

I think Hancock just consistently comes across as the rabbit in the headlights (who somehow keeps avoiding (political) death)

Has to be Whitty, Valance and the PM tomorrow or Friday, now.

I don't like Johnson, but fwiw I've been much more assured by him and the two CMOs doing the pressers as of late when they have happened.

Not saying that's cause of Johnson, mind, but he's managed to come across as something resembling a person with the faintest grasp of what is going on (it took long enough). Plus, Whitty and Valance at least have the expertise to answer the Qs

I’d be stunned if they were surprised by that question being asked - his reply looked rehearsed to me.

As I say though, let’s say he was surprised by it, there’s absolutely no reason they’d deny it.

He didn't deny it; he denied the significance of it.

"Lumpy", "operational letter" etc. etc. like it was just standard procedure, nothing to worry about - while looking petrified like a rabbit in the headlights.

Honestly think it really could be the Moderna ones - there's been no news as of late about it, the last articles I could find were all Jan/Feb time and just stressed 'in the spring'.

Well, whatever your definition of 'spring',we're into it now, and there's been no further word.

If they were planning on having 17m doses delivered in the next month or so which now aren't going to be, then that's probably a significant reduction

It's either that or there's a problem with one of the AZ plants/that supply

All Hancock is done with that performance is mean the Tories will be subjected to constant questions until they address the supply issue properly now.

Got to imagine there'll be an uproar because everyone will assume the timetable will now be pushed back, even if it actually won't be.

But it is standard procedure? Anecdotally I know that a few times over the past few months GP’s have been warned of sharp reductions in supply, and there’s been nothing to worry about so far.

Let’s put it this way, there is zero chance he’d be saying “we’re on track” with the rollout if the NHS knew there was a large supply issue ahead - the Govt have somehow built up a lot of goodwill from the public due to the rollout - if that was in jeopardy they’d simply say as much, as they literally have no control over supply.

Think about it logically.

They have a plan to vaccinate all adults by a set date.

Simultaneously, they have an NHS England letter saying vaccine supply will be delayed by a month.

So, apparently, the supply will be delayed but the roll out target will still be met.

That doesn't add up mate. Something is wrong.
