You are basing that on a tiny study. J&J vaccine which has similar make up to the AZ vaccine is over 80% effective against SA variant.

The AZ vaccine will work against all varieties to stop deaths and hospitalisations. There is a small chance that you can still be 'infected' but with minimal symptoms thats not a major concern.

But that's just it - they can.

And they can do a lot more safely if we had a sensible reopening of certain activities alongside a fully vaccinated population and a track and trace system that's world class.

All those things are possible, but they wont do it because they are dancing to the tune of big business - who really dont give a flying one about mass death.

I like how Johnson states we have the strictest border control, we've had hotels for 2 weeks this variant like others has been round for months. Also, we have stringent checks on covid samples the UK checks about half of samples for variants. He really is the spokesman for the wilfully stupid people.

It's all a game. The likes of Johnson still have herd immunity via any means as their core belief.

He doesn't care. 123,000 dead on his watch. When the numbers get that high it doen't matter anymore. Add another 100,000 or 200,000 on. He wont care. And the people he governs for will care less.

The big shame of it for me is that I see some people posting here and it barely seems to register with them that this situation is dire and could get a lot worse. "The vaccines will sort it lad". It's tragic. Absolutley 'kin tragic.

Kids have to go back to school, especially those in big years that could decide their futures

They are taking precautions by holding off opening anything else till April 12th, if infections go up then the roadmap will be held off by an extra couple weeks, if they don’t (and with the rate the vaccines are going, it’s a likelihood) then they can move forward with the next step

Small, independent businesses are the ones that have suffered the most through this. Those are the lives that need to be able to get back on track.

And no, people should not be locked in their houses for any longer than needs be for an illness with a below 1% mortality rate, and one - more importantly of course - we now have multiple vaccines for.
