Northern Ireland lockdown extended into April.

Realistically we are going to spend the first 4 months of the year in lockdown and I'm still not convinced that we won't require a lockdown next winter.

People talk about 2020 being a bad year but 2021 is even worse.

All down to the vax boosting immune systems, and/or boosters in the Autumn.

Definitely. Problem as well is the NHS is always at about 95% capacity in winter, so if hospitalisations approach 100% lockdowns will be needed.

Depressing.

The NHS seems to have an astonishing ability to be in crisis/at risk, no matter what. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Remember last year, when we had Stay Home and Protect the NHS cos it was close collapse?

Well these last few months, its had what, double/triple the admissions, (in Winter), and its still trundles on.

Its amazing really.

Hospital figures - 393 deaths were announced today, down 217 on yesterday and down 182 on last Thursday. 309 deaths were in English hospitals, down 213 on yesterday and down 185 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to 449.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 454 deaths were announced today, down 284 on yesterday and down 224 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 551.14

For the 60 day cut off, 586 deaths were announced today, down 428 on yesterday and down 230 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 700.29

Nar, in 2020, for me, we didnt have any real hope, I knew when the Winter came all hell would break out.

Im more hopeful this year.

Mutations are a concern, but at least we have more tools to fight this battle with.

India numbers amazing really. Seem to have had one big phase and now it’s dropping like a stone.....I hope they only have the one phase.....

Did you see any of the cricket?

It was mad, well normal actually, but you get the point. 000's in the ground, SD waas down to staying the shade, hardly any masks. But when a Six was belted into the crowd, they had to disinfect the ball!

Deaths seem to be dropping massively.

Am I right in thinking cases have stopped dropping significantly though?

Don’t laugh, but a major driving factor with them extending their lockdown is Paddy’s Day on 17th March.

If you’ve ever been anywhere in Ireland on Paddy’s weekend, you’ll know how full on it is and how under current circs, it would be crazy to have the place opened up.

Its mad in Edinburgh that day, well night, as well.

Long story short, up there with some mates for some reason, ended up me being friendly with an Irish lass, in the same room as some NZ rugby player was being equally as friendly with her pal.

Neither of us were socially distanced, and deffo no masks. (Other protection, obvs).

To paraphrase that song, He was a BIG marine.
