Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Where do I start with this?

What do you consider to be a chronic lung condition?. My sister in law has a chronic lung condition and she was categorised in group 4 for the vaccine, which she had about 3 weeks ago. There are millions of asthma sufferers in the UK and some are considered more severe than others. The more severe cases have not been excluded from group 6. If you are not in this group, which I suspect not given you were fit enough to undertake 40km daily bike rides during the last lockdown (unless I'm confusing you with another poster) then the powers that be have decided that you are at a lower risk of dying or being seriously ill from the disease. This decision would have been based on existing data. Only the morbidly obese (1.4m with a BMI above 40) have been included in group 6, and this will be because the data shows that they are at a higher risk that the milder asthma sufferers. I myself have mild asthma, and as far as I'm aware was never included in group 6 originally, and am quite happy that those in higher risk, whatever the reason, should get the vaccine before me.

But notwithstanding all the above, it's the way you just assume that everybody who is overweight because they are lazy and eat too much that really disses me off. My wife started piling on the pounds in her mid 30s. At 40 she was diagnosed with an under active thyroid and has lived with that condition for 20 years. Her body doesn't produce enough thyroxine, the hormone that controls the bodies metabolism, and even though she is on the maximum prescription allowed, it's still not enough. On top of that, following breast cancer 7 years ago she was put on hormone treatment that also makes her put on weight. Probably due to her weight she now has issues with both her knees and her hips, and has also recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis due to the hormone medication she has been taking. So the upshot is that she is unable to exercise anywhere near as much as she would like to. And to top it all the whole weight/illness thing is having a toll on her mental health.

That's just 2 medical issues that have caused my wife's obesity. There are literally millions out there that suffer similar illnesses as her, and there are probably numerous other medical issues that also cause you to put on weight. Of the 1.4m morbidly obese in England, over two thirds are women, and I would put money on the vast majority of those having underlying medical issues that have caused it.

So please don't try and insult my intelligence again by telling me that obesity cannot be caused by medical issues. And if it makes you feel better, my wife's BMI is well below 40, so you can rest assured that she won't be one of the fat people who will be getting her jab before you.

My asthma is well controlled because I exercise a lot, eat well and take my steroid inhaler 2-4 times a day depending on how tight my chest is.

Your wife's case is down to medical conditions. Granted. I have no issue with her getting priority over me.

I do take issue with millions of fat buggers who just eat and eat and become obesse.

If it was up to me... I wouldn't give them the vaccine until they showed they were trying to lose weight

Wrong. Pharmacies are not allowed to pass on if medicines are sold on prescription, but they can still claim back VAT paid out on their VAT return.

if you pay VAT on yours it's because it is not on prescription. And if you don't get a prescription for your asthma I'd question how severe it actually is. I only have mild asthma and so far have never been given a prescription.

I need 2 inhalers on prescription.

Apologises Google told me you pay VAT on them

Shows what can happen when uninformed folk pronounce a verdict on sommet they know nothing about.

That's a bit harsh on the regulatory bodies of a a whole host of European states. They're there to give their judgements on thr datas, not what a AZ director of marketing wants them to say.

Contemplating buying my own pub at this rate.
One near Goodison.

I don’t think they will. The numbers are all going in the right direction but we are a few months off yet....
I'll say so. 500+ deaths per day for the week and people on ventilators stubbornly at a high level.

The politicians going to bat for their business mates need lcoking up.

Hahaha, talk about the biter getting bit. Germany has done more than most to trash the AZ vaccine for its own political and economic purposes, fully backed up by its glove puppet Macron talking through his backside. Of course the people will be worried. Please don’t take it, it’s gnats piss, use your own expensive Pfizer doses, and leave the AZ for the U.K. and the RoW......
Why do you hate foreigners?

I thought they learnt early days that vents are not a great treatment for covid?

Might be wrong though.
IIRC it was a case of treating people with it who would respond better to existing drugs like blood thinning agencies and anti-inflammatories. I dont think it was a matter of them not being useful.

The ratio of 15,000,000 single jabs administered as opposed to 500,000 double doses - does that trouble anyone else or make them concerned the best policy would now be to get a second jab quickly to all of the most vulnerable?

The breast beating over that first number is all wrong, IMO.

Could have been. It was very early days, and the docs were literally learning on the job. NHS will be under pressure for several weeks, they say, so like you, I do not think an end to restrictions is a great idea. Lets face it, they aint that bad.

That is literally what the scientist said would happen in a few weeks. 2nd doses that is.

It needs to be done now. We dont urgently need to reach down into the below 60s. Far better to hand their shots to the over 70s and vulnerable.
