The RECOVERY trial has produced some wonderful results/data

Combined, tocilizumab and dexamethasone should cut death risk by about a third for patients on oxygen and halve it for those on a ventilator, the researchers say.

That's fantastic news.

IMO, therapeutics will be more valuable than vaccines. If we can get a range of drugs that puts a safety net under the vast majority of the most vulnerable after infection then we can begin to restart our societies. Vaccines are a good development as they can break up the chain of transmission, but there are bound to be teething problems with them, and not everyone is convinced about them.

Agree that vaccines aren’t the only thing we’ll need (especially given the large vaccine hesitancy here in the US).

This is a repost but though it a good article

The worst thing that could happen for the UK right now is Tory backbenchers to force - and Johnson to cave, which wouldn't be against his form we all know - an early lift on the measures.

For all the people screaming this lockdown isn't strict enough, combined with the vaccine roll out it seems to be working. It's crap, but it's working.

Shouldn't be lifted until mid-March at the very earliest, and even then it should just be schools in limited numbers (I'd leave that until after Easter personally) and maybe allow people to go and play golf or something, like they did last May in 2-balls only, just something easy to manage etc.

If they can just be clear that another 2-3 weeks of this come early March will be the answer to, come April, getting out of lockdown for good and starting to see the gradual easing back to some normality, I'm sure people could stomach it.

The Covid19 virus is now known throughout the world as the UK variant, because it's the dominant strain and it originated here because we have seen our government encourage gatherings in a period of high infection in order to make short term profits and that allowed the environment for mutations to appear.

Sorry David but I'm going to have to call BS on that. As someone who watches CNA, Al Jazeera and CNN on a daily basis.

They mention Covid-19 and then concerns over the Kent Variant and South African strain.
