Behaviour. Yes. That's how they did it. Vaccines are good; behavioural changes are better.

Australia and New Zealand will see spikes soon in their winter, Aus more likely than NZ. They'll hardly be anything compared to UK/Europe and get on top of them instantly by lockdowns, but that won't work long term because they can't and won't keep their borders shut forever.

They have been helped massively by their location on the planet.

So no, they'll need vaccines as soon as possible, too.

You're inability to get beynd the source of the virus. It's not important now to constantly reiterate it was on Chinese soil. So what? Who cares? It was the process common to all south east Asian countries that created those conditions for the virus, not a regime.

So you know nothing about my life.

The regime clearly attempted to prevent it getting out there. I'm not saying that absolves the UK or anybody else of blame. But they have literally imprisoned people that reported on the outbreak.

Is that okay?

Ive been fully onboard with lockdowns, but we simply cant and wont lockdown forever, people are at breaking point and there's only so far we can push them.

Thats the truth sadly Dave.
I dont think it is. There's two choices: death and ill health or a changed lifestyle.

people WILL get theor heads around it eventually...let's just hope it doesn't take another winter like this to persuade them and that this government falls and we get leadership.

Never said I did. You misinterpreted my post.

Yes. Vaccines + behavioural changes. That's the formula.

Planning for the Autumn is pointless, this virus cares little for our plans.

Lets see where we are in June.

Once we get to May and June and the weather warms up, we will have to start moving forward. Last summer wasn't too bad, so it should be far better this year with vaccines.

This lockdown will be a long one but I think it will be the last one.

Obviously our healthcare workers should get it. But if the intention is to stop the spread surely we should be vaccinating supermarket workers and school teachers ASAP. These people are in contact with a lot more people than most. Should they not be priority before the 50-70 age group? It might be the case but I haven't heard of any talk of it.
Think supermarket workers should be higher up. They have had to go in throughout every lockdown.

Don't think anyone is now suggesting a full return to normality. I'd love it, in terms of the nice stuff, but I know it's not realistic.

But there has to be some form of give, not just because of economic reasons, it's social reasons too.

And it's very hard to justify any reason for it when everybody is vaccinated, barring some massive issue with the vaccines not working which, so far thankfully, there's no evidence of.

From whom, Starmer ......

I am, honestly, call me naive, but I think once we get jabs in arms, we can consider a sense of normality again, maybe not everything straight away and next Winter is certainly a concern at this point.

But, well we shall see.

As I said, things are teetering, wealth, health and everything that makes us human, we need a win.

Think supermarket workers should be higher up. They have had to go in throughout every lockdown.

But, and I don't mean to sound blunt, just because they work in an area where they are obviously more likely to run the risk of being exposed, does not make an individual more likely to die if they contract the virus.

They aren't doing it on likelihood of contracting it, because as we know they still think you can get infected even if vaccinated, but it does stop illness.

They're doing it on whether or not if you do get infected, you're likely gonna end up in hospital.

It's different with frontline NHS staff. If they get infected, they can't work, and that could/would result in less people being able to treat patients, which = more death, from COVID or anything else.

Other than that, they've decided to go with people who are more vulnerable to the illness first.

Now, those groups include people of all ages and in terms of doing it through the age range, it's now all the over 70s who are getting contacted. In 2 weeks' time it's likely gonna be the over 60s. All the while, people in every age range who are considered vulnerable are getting their jabs too.

There's no sure fire solution but there'll be plenty of teachers, supermarket workers etc who are in these groups too. I'm sure plenty of supermarket workers and teachers are over 50, for example, and will be due their first jab by late May (conservative estimate).

I hope that makes sense? I definitely see the point you're making, but they've done it on if you're gonna die or, frankly, take up a ventilator if you catch this thing. And that makes the virus a lot less dangerous, if the people it is more likely statistically to do the damage to have that level of protection.
