I really don't get that impression of what I'm reading. That and I don't think that message is out there for people neither. I'm seeing panic in healthy people both online and in real life.

I mean I'm self isolating right now for no reason because my boss in work got into a flap because I mentioned my kids had a cough.

I still see genuine panic in the country without any information being put out there to alleviate those fears. There are people who should he fearful right now , not everyone at once though.

I don't think panic can be avoided. That's an outcome though, not what is being put out there. There are definitely a few outlets going over the top, but it is hard to convey the potential impact of something like this without striking a slightly alarmist tone, there's a balance needed between highlighting the severity of the situation and outlining the simple measures we as a society can take to tackle it. The sources I have been reading have been decent enough imo, but people have to be sensible in how they receive it and act upon it. There's huge queues for guns in the US at the moment, which I feel would probably be more unsettling news than knowing I could be sat in my pyjamas for a few weeks.

Think it depends what you’re reading. Whitty and Vallance in the daily press conferences have been very clear that the vast majority (data I saw said ~85%) who get it will have mild to moderate symptoms. They’ve repeated this every single day.

For all those jumping on the martial law bandwagon.

Try to think of it like this :

When the flooding was really bad did the army” help out “- Yes.

Was it martial law - No.

The army have been put on standby to “ help out “ again ( if needed )

It’s not the start of a military junta, so please put your tinfoil hats back in the cupboard.
In Northwood HQ, we have a permanent CTF (commander task force) set up. Usually consists of to pongos(army). They sit ready for national emergencies and generally get stood up for floods like you said. The 2 pongos will have grew to a team in excess of 20 service personnel monitoring and putting plans in place to act. Most of these plans will be to use the forces medics as paramedics and nurses on wards in hospitals. Also use the infantry and others to help deliver food, drive trucks, help elderly in times of need. You will also get the Armed Forces police to help the normal police. They carry warrant cards already and there rights might be extended to full police powers if needed.

Like you said they will be used to help not to terrify people.

Back in September of 2001, Bono and a load of his mates were releasing a single to raise funds for AIDS mitigation in Africa. Then 9/11 happened so it became for that as well. Not that they are just shallow attention seekers looking for a wagon to hitch their egos to, oh no. The song was a carefully crafted and thoughtfully written treatise on the difficulty of educating a rural and illiterate population on the dangers of spreading HIV that just so happened to also work perfectly for an unprecedented terrorist attack in a large city.

Luckily, neither emergency required Bono, Sting, Fred Durst or anybody else connected with this classic piece of political music to dip into their own massive pile of loot.

Same with footballers and tennis players who do fund raisers. They've got millions in the bank. Get your wallet out Pogba.

I get the feeling governments across the world are putting in place practices etc as a means of preparing the populace for modern warfare (eg. Economic, electronic, power etc), and seeing how they react and whats required to maintain a level of order.

All this social distancing, hand washing etc because of this virus is no different to the advice provided in regards to many other diseases, viruses, illnesses.

I've not read anything yet about what makes covid-19 any more dangerous than other viruses, other than there currently being no vaccine. As stated by WHO, no vaccine is 100% effective, therefore once a vaccine is developed its not even certain it's going to assist those it most likely needs to, the elderly.

I'm hitching a ride on a tank to get to the toilet paper aisle.
