Sorry I don't mean in terms of being fit or healthy in that sense. I mean if you don't have an underlying condition, or if you're on the younger side, or how the body responds. I didn't mean if you run a mile a day that you're invincible.
The example my housemate used was she treated two people, both in their 50s, both 'fit and healthy' - not smokers, exercised regularly etc. One of them didn't make it through, and had an underlying condition (COPD which is what my dad had so I am worried about him and have been all along). The other one didn't and made it. But to look at them both, she said they were both as 'healthy' as each other. One of them just had that one weakness that the virus latched onto. I know it's not the case with everybody.
some people could still lead to people getting ill with Covid-19.
Think there’s a fair amount of pessimism from the likes of SAGE after the slightly erroneous and/or optimistic predictions over the past 12 months. Ultimately, there’s no way stringent restrictions can last that much longer without huge scarring to the economy - at some point the economic reality will have to take over. I think it’s miraculous that we’ve got to this position almost 12 months on without a full-on depression.@BlueToff saw this on the BBC site:
"Fully relaxing coronavirus restrictions by September, when the new school year begins, would see "significant further disease", even with a fast vaccine rollout and high uptake of jabs, scientists advising the UK government have warned.
In an undated document published by Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) on Friday, the experts said a combination of factors, such as more transmissible coronavirus variants, vaccine hesitancy and jabs not working so well in some people could still lead to people getting ill with Covid-19.
However, with restrictions similar to those in place in late summer last year, a return to normal schooling by then should be "quite achievable", they said."
What a load of rubbish - if we cant open up when everyone is vaccinated then we never will.
As you've said there are groups out there happy to stay locked away or under restrictions forever
. I think it’s miraculous that we’ve got to this position almost 12 months on without a full-on depression.
Oh absolutely, but if we'd have had this conversation 12 months ago and somebody floated the idea of pretty much closing down huge parts of the economy for 12 months, I'm fairly certain we'd nearly all have predicted tens of millions unemployed, a stock market crash, a banking crisis etc etcThats cos its not an economic reason why some businesses are currently screwed.
That said, I think that certain sectors looking forward will have issues for a while yet.
Independently speaking Sage are informative, as soon as they near machinations of Government it all goes wonky.Think there’s a fair amount of pessimism from the likes of SAGE after the slightly erroneous and/or optimistic predictions over the past 12 months. It's weird how accustomed we've got to lockdowns and restrictions - if somebody had prophesied at the end of 2019 that the government would mandate that we have to stay indoors all day, we'd all have been expecting a Nazi coup.
