Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It's a strange decision from a vaccine maker who knows the demographic for death from Covid19 are the over 80s - which makes them (or should make them) overwhelmingly their target group to be tested.
Killing them/putting them in hospital due to bad side effects of the vaccine (or drug interactions with their existing meds) isn’t great though either.

If things had gone wrong I could have seen you vehemently arguing that they were irresponsible for not fully testing their vaccine on younger volunteers first ;)

Ill give you care home residents and workers but think nhs front line staff are in priority group 2 with over 80s .So seeing most residents in care homes would be pretty old think most people in the survey would be getting on a bit.
Give me what you like it's wrong...

Logistically it was very difficult to administer vaccine in older people care/nursing homes, not at least if they have COVID in the home it was no go area, until clear. And given that this type of work is typically part time, the entire front line work force far outweighs number of service users in most care/nursing homes.

And the ratio of front staff line being able present themselves in their hundreds everyday just in one vaccine site far outweighed 1week head start they had

What shambles is happening?

As a % of population Scotland is the worst performing nation in the U.K. The SNP even come up with an excuse that they were concentrating on care homes before they discovered that England has pretty well completed theirs. If you realise that Scotland has about 10% of the English population, you would expect that they would have done about 10% of England’s number of vaccinations...whereas they’ve actually done about 7% of England’s number. An absolute shambles tbh......

Tbf Dave it is an absence of complete data that is the issue, not the current data itself.

I may have missed it but still haven’t seen anything based on the existing incomplete trials that raised a red flag that when all the data is in that the AZ vaccine won’t eventually be expanded to over 65s even for those countries that aren’t recommending it now.

Great point. There is nothing like you say, just a lack of it, and so far there's no evidence that the risk the UK are taking with the vaccines coming spaced out.

I'm not saying I agree with it on Pfizer, cos they should have stuck with 3 weeks or maybe gone 6 weeks tops like Denmark/France, but so far there's no evidence of adverse effects or people who have had the first dose contracting COVID en masse as a rule of thumb or whatever.

Will help that the majority of the people who have had it are still shielding, mind.

The love for Sturgeon baffles me. She's hopeless. No better than the ones we've got.

How did you arrive at that number bearing in mind we have given over 10 million jabs....

21 days ago pete, we'd given 2.29 million people their first jab

21 days after the 1st dose is the ideal time to give the second dose for Pfizer

we only started using AZ on Jan 4th, so most of the people would have had Pfizer at that point
