OK so when will the 2nd dose be given? I was assured by a consultant at Aintree it would follow shortly after the first dose, and be the Pfizer one. Is there a problem with distributing the vaccine? Or don't we have enough of it?

The range seems to be from 3 to 12 weeks but you should have been booked in straight away for your second one I believe? My gran got told her date immediately.

If it's Pfizer, then you should be getting it 3 weeks after your first dose. That's the recommendation from Pfizer. There was talk that the government had decided to increase the spacing to 12 weeks but then it seems certain surgeries are still doing the 3 week spacing, so I really don't know.

It seems that if you get the Oxford vaccine, then you'll definitely be waiting 12 weeks for your second dose. But again, the evidence is that 12 weeks spacing for that vaccine is better than shorter spacing for the efficacy of the jab.

There doesn't seem to be any problems so far as the vaccine roll out is going well - we're on course at this stage to be at about 13.5m people offered at the very least the first dose by mid-Feb. However, I'm sure there's going to be some risk at some stage of supply issues.

We have secured 100m doses of Oxford AZ, 10m of Moderna (to arrive in the spring) and don't we have about 10m doses of Pfizer?

The issue will be manufacturing at pace. That's the only thing that could cause issues with supply, and keep in mind there's every single nation vying for the same medicine. But if that goes well there shouldn't be any reason that distribution is an issue. Storage for the Moderna and Pfizer ones, but the majority in this country will get Oxford, which can be stored in a fridge.

@davek meant 'patronising', not 'pedantic', but you get my point.

The SME I work for worked on site last spring. My cousin runs his own contracting business and stopped for just 2 weeks last year before was told to start up again. These are vital works and need to be done on programme or everything else gets pushed back.

In the case of the SME, they operated with as few people on site as possible and everyone works from home where possible too - and is doing the same now. My cousin is only a small crew but all the work is outdoors and they wear ppe and masks etc. Luckily for him, his wife works from home so in that sense no issues with childcare etc. I appreciate not everyone is that lucky but clearly a fair few managed last spring - so it's either the people making those decisions or the employers, and those are the ones who need to act. The government's advice is the same as it was.

On coffee shops etc, while I think they can be operated totally safely as T/O businesses for drinks, if that is adding extra strain to schools and stuff then they should be shut.

Either way, we'd still be seeing the exact same results as we currently are even if we had a lockdown with our doors bolted shut like the great lads over in China, because there's a two-week lag.

In my Asda, nothing. Fatties everywhere. 4 yumyums for a quid? Get in.

Honestly mate I'm not even kidding though.

I have avoided the place as much as poss but had to go earlier today. I only ever go on my own but people just treat it like a trip out. Both parents, their kid(s). What's the point?

You can't make a law against stupid people.

Don’t want to repeat myself too much but similar to what I mentioned in this thread a day or two ago. Saw this on twitter earlier. 53A6D9A8-34A0-4B28-98A4-0468A1D988D5.webpI understand it’s mostly aimed at covid idiots who are publicly flouting rules and denying it, not standing 2m’s apart etc but the lengths people have gone over the past 10 months just feels so worthless when you see this sort of advertising implying it’s the publics fault? When there’s so many blunders (care homes, track and trace contracts, schools, Cummings driving up the country, Boris Johnson shaking the hands of covid patients, Eat out to Help Out etc etc). The gall of this government to scapegoat the public being responsible for this pandemic is sickening

Personally I’m 100% in favour of ads like that.

A considerable minority of the public have been nobheads throughout this pandemic.

The sacrifices I’ve made over the past 10 months don’t feel worthless after looking at those images, they simply reaffirm the importance.

the early data from Israel is very good. 60% reduction in infections in the overs 60's between 13-23 days.

That won't make the news though... the media will find some jarg lab that says it's 90% more deadly

^^^^^^ these really.......
