Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The employers are making the decision to get people in work and make money if they can...which is the nature of employers. It's the government's job to take that decision out of their hands. If that means subsidising them beyond rent relief, that's what needs doing.

All roads lead to Nos 10 and 11 Downing St.

You can make money without getting people into work.

If you are an employer insisting people go into the office despite those staff being able to work from home just fine, then that's on you.

So, is one dose enough then? Didn't see the briefing, how did the 'scientists' explain their current theory?

The logic is that there is a better chance of stopping the virus from spreading/mutating as quickly if you have as many people with some protection than it is if you have less people with both doses.

The risks of the latter far outweigh the risks of the former.

People still have to get their second booster dose.

Not gonna argue the toss on Johnson.

But Whitty explained quite clearly that the single dose to max out the numbers to get SOME protection is far better at suppressing a spread than 2 doses into half the number.
Does 3 month dose space have the same efficacy rate in all age groups regardless of health?
Whitty ( oddly auto correct forces "shifty") Principled by science they are not.

The Oxford AZ vaccine has more efficacy over 12 weeks spacing than it does 3 week spacing.

You know there's evidence of this, yet choose to ignore it.

In what world do you think more people not having some form of protection sooner is better than less people having 100% protection (which as you like to keep pointing out I'm sure is no certain thing anyway)?

That £500 COVID payment, if true, is hands down the stupidest thing I've ever heard a government suggest - including Donald Trump suggesting the injection of bleach.
The government rejected the idea earlier, I think someone at the BBC just dreamt it up and ran with it.
But imagine thinking such an idea would convince people to stay at home.
They’d be out spending it the day after lol

OK so when will the 2nd dose be given? I was assured by a consultant at Aintree it would follow shortly after the first dose, and be the Pfizer one. Is there a problem with distributing the vaccine? Or don't we have enough of it?

Not only that, there'd be "catch covid" raves all over the country.

You know that it isn't the type of employment I'm speaking of.

It's a good job you said the other day that you're not an apologist for the government, otherwise we might think you are.

I totally understand the logic.

But as it is, the scientists and that dont really know how the vaccines and possible new strains and transmission rates will be. They think, (hope), the data they have so far shows promise, but they do not know.

In a football sense, you are asking if Everton can be crowned champions after 3 games.
You only need to look at the thread over in the EO to understand that many people look no further than the short-term.

What kind of jobs do you think I'm on about?

I have told you before that construction and infrastructure - whether you like it or not David - is a key industry. However, that doesn't mean people should be going to sites and/or offices unless they absolutely have to.

The government's guidance to those companies is exactly the same as it was in spring so why is it not being followed like it was then?

I think they've got tons of stuff wrong. They're next to hopeless mostly. But there has to be an element of personal responsibilty.

What are the government to do about a family of fat dobbers treating a trip to ASDA as their family day out?

Edit: Apologies if that came across as pedantic Dave, but you've just resorted to the old 'you're a Tory' argument, there.
