Why the wait until Jan 4th, can take weeks after vaccine to have immunity, this will delay cost lives.

Im amazed an NHS doctor can make such a comment tbh.

Many NHS staff are currently on well deserved annual leave. When nurses or HCAs return they will have to receive training for administering the vaccine. I’ve no idea where these thousands of staff ready to go are hiding. Those who are working now aren’t exactly sat on their hands.

Bizarre.

Hammond is (or at least was) “MD” and had a regular column in the Eye were he revealed loads of dodgy goings on ahead of them becoming news. If he’s saying this I tend to believe him unless evidence exists to the contrary.

Don't know what flipping NHS you know probably the Tory fairy wonder land one, service needs comes first, always have done when it's come to Christmas or any bank holiday many staff will do well not have a ban on leave for Christmas and New years eve period. Either Covid is public emergency or not, if it is vaccination needs rolled out now, especially if they have 4 million ready to go.

Another last minute mess Student can't or can spread Covid.

What are you on about ? Genuinely don’t understand your post.

He’s not even right on the 4 million dose figure.

NHS staff are having to receive significant online training before they can administer the vaccine. The hospitals are already busy as it is and in North London they have been calling nurses to try and get them to work extra shifts just to help manage the Covid influx, never mind administering vaccinations.

Where are these thousands of NHS staff ready to go administering vaccines ?

Without wanting to sound obtuse nor downplay their genuine need for annal leave, why not cancel all leave, recall staff and simply get on with the job?

That may sound insensitive, but there is a genuine need to get this process rolling and as such perhaps the greater good outweighs the individual needs.

Any lost leave can be reimbursed at a later date when the immunisation programme is well established. I know what it's like to lose leave at short notice...

... but my use rationale is 'it's the job we chose'. By immunising all NHS staff and the priority groups, surely this will reduce the strain the NHS is facing?

the four million doses was what the Government was saying before Hancock revised it downwards yesterday

You are suggesting NHS staff are on their holidays for Christmas, many are never allowed leave over this period, lots have had leave cancelled.

I said many NHS staff are on annual leave. This is a factually correct statement.

Most non-urgent clinical areas close at Christmas time. I’m well aware that many NHS doctors and nurses don’t normally get much leave over Christmas. And it’s because they’re busy doing a job, not waiting around to administer vaccines.

You can volunteer here to help the vaccine rollout.

It's factually correct there are million of doses ready to go, but waiting until next week. There has been loosening of clinical concern about Pizjer vaccine as it been rolled out. Oxford vaccine will be less of clinical concern from onset. This could be rolled out like other vaccine with little clinical observations.

No it isn’t.

530,000 by next week confirmed by Hancock yesterday.
