Why is that? Would you rather someone vulnerable take a vaccine that hands them almost total immunity or less than 2/3rds?

Surely it’s up to the individual as to what vaccine they take, if the Oxford one is more readily available then that, if not then the Pfizer one

this is true, but we really should be suspicious when we’ve been repeatedly told how these vaccines should be used, and then the government (and Tony Blair, bizarrely) say “yes, but we are going to do this!”

Think your being a little too pessimistic too Dave. There are still plenty of people under 50 going to hospital. If this stops that then great and will contribute to the end of this horrific time. We can then give the higher efficiency ones to more vulnerable etc, between both it should be enough to get out lives back which is obviously the end game here

It isn'nt my argument that it wont help. My argument is that those most at risk from the virus are better (much better) served by the other vaccines that have a license.

It's that clear.

If any vaccine can prevent severe disease then it will contribute greatly to the ending of the pandemic sooner rather than later.

Its a two-tier approach to vaccination. I am arguing for a level playing field for all. Which makes what I'm asking for the antithesis of snobbery.

Just put your thinking cap on and it might make a bit more sense. Or leave it off, as you prefer.

Great news. Hopefully the beginning of the end for this terrible illness. I'd be first in the queue for any vaccine that gives me protection. The Oxford vaccine is great for the UK and great for poorer countries priced out of the Pfizer/ Modena vaccine

Nah sorry, but AstraZeneca have screwed up here.

The reaction is a natural one. People would prefer the "good" vaccine when one has been communicated so much more poorly than the others.

I'm trying to find facts about this but it seems they've gone for the 62% efficacy based on two full doses because they didn't have time to do more trials with the smaller subset of data that had 90%. If so, it's hard to claim that's good science and it's not due to political pressure.

I'm by no means an anti-vaxxer, but I'm concerned now just because I have less confidence that due process has been followed.
