I'd go even further and have a full lockdown throughout January and February. Any cars out to have their registration number tracked down and issued with an automatic £1000 fine unless their trip was essential i.e. food shopping which would be covered by proof of a receipt for that shop.

I wouldn’t be surprised by a wave of resignations once the crisis has past - you can only push people so far especially as they are hardly handsomely rewarded for their work.

My mother in law was a nurse , retired last month 2 years earlier than planned. Morale is low, people are tired.

I can support a lockdown if schools are completely closed. Otherwise its a half measure and an absolute waste of time.

Closing some retail stores and empty pubs in January isn't going to make any difference whilst the covid education factories (over 50% of UK spread) are still open. One month won't be enough either, will need to be 2-3 months maybe more.
 
Just received a security note from work. It looks like the anti lockdown and pro Brexit boys and gals plan on doing their thing in London on New Year’s eve to make sure numbers keep rising.

While I genuinely do feel sorry for the young adults of today as it is restricting a key developmental stage in their lives, my sympathy only goes so far.

My eldest is moaning about her upcoming birthday and why we won't allow her to have friends around. My wife spoke to her, quite softly, and discussed it all.

"But my friends still are doing this... They're doing that..." My wife tried to explain again, but still it was like it's going in one ear and out the other.

I lost my temper with her in the end and spoke to her bluntly, like an adult, which she always claims how she should be treated. Seems to have done the trick...

If the youth want to have their freedoms, they need to understand their responsibilities and potentially how their generation will be judged.
