No the entire country. Limited to Christmas Day.

Well, in theory anyway. Obviously that vast majority of people will laugh and carry on, and to be honest rightly so.

He's arse covering by doing this. The reality is barring military on the street, everyone would have ignored the "rules" for Christmas anyway.

I really don't think they would have, provided it was announced early enough and clearly enough.

Now all they've done is said to people you can either lose the money you've spent on food, travel, drink etc or you can listen to us whilst knowing that at least one cabinet minister is going to be caught out travelling over this period. It only makes sense as a deliberate attempt to utterly discredit everyones - and I mean everyones - faith in the British government.

Yeah the missus's mate who she had just been talking to said that her and her family are still going to travel up to York to be with family over the Christmas period.

Of course they will. And 99% would have done the same regardless if Boris "cancelled Christmas" a month ago or today.

People stopped listening to the gobshites after Cummings.

Why is the vaccine taking so long to administer?100,000 in a week while the yanks are doing 6 million per day.they should be queueing up at GP s and working 24/7 giving it out,I don't know anyone in Liverpool who has had it, makes me wonder if they really have the numbers they claim!
Because they have only so many of the "40M" Pfizer vaccines they said they "secured". Basically we're waiting for the rubbish Oxford vaccine - cheap and cheerful and bog standard that offers 50% chance of immunity - until there's a mass roll out.

I'm sure it hasn't said that for Tier 1 to 3, only Tier 4. Or is that what you meant?

sorry yes - this is how the Grauniad described it:

Relaxation for Christmas mixing scrapped in tier 4 areas and curtailed for rest of England

We must look again at Christmas, he says.
Given the early evidence on the new variant of the virus, the potential risk means we cannot continue with Christmas as planned, he says.
Those in tier 4 areas should not mix with anyone outside their household at Christmas, though support bubbles will remain in place.
Across the rest of the country, up to three households can meet but this will be limited to Christmas Day only, rather than the five days previously set out.
There will be no relaxation on the 31 December, so people must not break the rules for new year’s, he says.
