Certainly I've heard virologists talking about 40 or more variants
What's interesting about this one is the suggestion that it may be associated with faster spread in the south east.
Now initially you would say that's a bit worrying if the virus is spreading faster and that could be concerning.
But sometimes the variants that come through spread quicker but they become less deadly, less effective.

Yeah there has been some criticism flying around for some measures that don't make sense, like wearing masks outdoors. The reason they're banning fireworks is because it's their tradition to all congregate outdoors and let off fireworks on new year's eve. So the reasoning for that is to stop people gathering in big groups. I'm actually quite glad because people have no regard for safety and just fire them off all over the shop lol
Infections are quite high here. I don't know how because the hospitality industry has been practically locked down since November 1st. I guess it's schools and private gatherings. The government is pretty nervous.

Is it masks everywhere outdoors?
I sort of see the logic for masks in a city centre or a retail park but walking around in the countryside or whatever definitely not.
