It's safe, it's just whether its efficacious enough to give to vulnerable people. That's the issue.

Well lets wait and see what the folk who know what they are on about decide. Thats the issue.
More testing for the Oxford vaccine. I think they know their figures dont look convincing.

If it was just restrcited to the under 65s then I wouldn't see that as a major problem. But their best efforts look well short of offering protection to the very elderly - and that's the major objective of these vaccines: to protect those most in danger from the virus.

Yeah, tis. But if the Pfizer can do that, and the rest of us can use the more easily transported and stored one, so we reduce transmission, and life can get back to some kind of normal, that sounds like a decent plan to me.

I'm in the "I'm 29 and won't be offered a vaccine for many, many months" gang.

Its all about capacity. As in, being able to get enough jabs.

In the last few weeks, with zero problems and no panic or long queues or anything, my local GP surgeries have given everyone over 50, who wanted one, plus a few school years, the flu jab, in my town.

Covid will be obviously be longer, (more folk, 2 jabs), but the infrastructure to do it as soon as, is in place.

Yeh the reason I brought up all of this this morning (asking if people know which vaccine they actually receive) is my grandparents (85 and vulnerable) will be offered one soon and we'd like as a family to find out if we can ensure they get the Pfizer vaccine and not the Oxford one. Whether we have to may more for it or what. Would just be nice if we knew which one they could get.

Which ever one they get, it will be safe. And work.

What no one knows yet is how long any of them will work for.

Well with one being more effective than the other at helping fight the virus I think it's fair to want that one for them.

We only have one thats approved mate. If they get one next week, it will be that one.

When others come on line, they will be effective. Some may work better for the elderly than another, if so, the NHS will give your Nan and Pop the best one for them.

Chill, and dont believe the internet.

I'm just looking at the stats not the Internet. I don't know why so many people think it's weird I'd want the most scientifically effective vaccine for my family.

I think they'll just come in and "get a COVID vaccine" but do you even know which of them you're getting.

What scientific data have you analysed? Or have you read it on the internet?

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that an unsafe vaccine will be introduced. Some may be more effective in different age groups, dunno me. But the NHS will deliver the best vaccine for your grandparents, as long as they have enough of course. But thats a different issue.

Some employers are looking into the very same thing.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine has been found to be safe and effective, researchers confirmed on Tuesday in a study published in The Lancet journal, but added more detail was needed on how effective the vaccine is for older adults. Asked if the statistics paint the Oxford vaccine in a “slightly worse light” compared with others, Dr Gilbert said: “Well, that’s something that will become clearer over time.

It is, and it's what I've been saying pretty much (with the caveat that if I had the choice between AstraZenica or Pfizer I'd choose the latter).

But will this government make sure the vaccine that's 95% effective is rolled out for all the vulnerable?
