I suppose it'd be akin to a Universal Basic Income.
Yep, I think a temporary universal basic income would be a decent idea to help people who find themselves without income. UBI is coming anyway, whether it's now, 5 years or 20 years - so it would be a good trial run.

Oh I know mate.

The best case really is what the gov have/are trying to do. Spread it out.

Have more people get it, but over a longer period of time so that the NHS have beds and treatment available for those that need it.

Most of us will just get a bad cold probably. Look, some of us may already have had it. Last week I felt awful for about a day. But I didn't have any covid-19 symptoms other than aches and then I felt a bit cold.

But was it this. Or was it the fact that that morning I'd done a really tough workout and then a 9-hour shift and my body needed rest? Went straight to bed and woke up feeling absolutely fine and have done since. What am I meant to do? Stop my life? I've already lost my job (for now) from this thing.

So I really don't know how we control this short of a nationwide lockdown but that simply isn't sustainable for a long amount of time and the government know it. It will probably come but they are going to do all they can to avoid it. And at the end of the day it's not like you can just hide away from this and it'll go away.

No idea how long it will last mate, but I reckon it will be months before immunity theory will show results. Not weeks. No difference from containment with adequate measures. The price to achieve that might be much higher than we anticipate.
Hope you will get some relieve from the rescue package announce today.

2 years ago I went from being self employed,to going on the books at the different places I worked (nightly)The simple reason for this was I was losing 400 euro for 5 months on unemployment benefits. The first year I received nothing because I had to have 2 seasons of stamps under my belt. This year I have taken my money. If the tourism industry collapses over here,it looks like they will continue to pay us until it picks up/starts.Thank God I made that decision.

....for purely selfish reasons, is the indication it will pick up this summer? As you know, I’ve just had a holiday in Halkidiki cancelled by the hotel but I’ve another in Cyprus in July.

Oh I know its probably better to be transparent with the predictions - though curious how nobody gave a rats ass about expert predictions about anything before this event and shrugged it off as scaremongering.
Can't help but read 20,000 and think 'cant more be done?'.
Oh, I am the same.

I think part of the perceived lax-rules (advice) is down to a very simple point: could it be enforced? We've got the forth lowest police per 1000 in Europe.

I think they're also factoring in the blatant fact not everyone will adhere to the advice. If everyone was sensible, careful, stuck to imposed self-isolation and social distancing etc. the number might be lower.
