There has to be a definitive criteria for recording these deaths. The reporting now does state deaths within 28 days rather than deaths from covid. At the same time
You are ruling out any possibility that anyone who has died with covid (28 days) would have lived anyway.
It doesn't have to be black and white. Seems nobody likes to hit a middle ground on the subject. It's either killing a lot of people who would have died or its killing noone that would have died.
Perhaps it's both? Perhaps a lot of people who have died to covid died despite the positive test , or were dying anyway given the average age and significant amount of underlying health issues. But that's not all of them and there are thousands who have also died before they would have otherwise.
I don't know how they arrived at 28 days. Maybe that's up to how long people held on for in the first wave.
I think most people understand that this will catch people that died of completely unrelated issues to covid (accidents etc.).
As long as the criteria is kept the same we can compare the trends in the numbers more easily.
It's obvious that it's still out there, easily transmitted and fatal for many which is why we need to be careful. Not because of Boris but because carelessness can cause the death of others.
