Am I right in thinking everyone asked to isolate is provided with 500quid to cover some salary lost?

No, it's only for people on benefits who aren't able to work from home..

It was trialled somewhere ( might have been Oldham ? ) and is only just being rolled out, so I doubt many people have got cash from it. It's not a bad idea, but I'd imagine the main problem will be the time to get the cash. If, say, it takes weeks to get the money in your account, then what do you use to pay for food in the meantime ?

Thanks.

6-8weeks lead time on that sort of stuff isn't it? Restricting it to those only on benefits sucks too, not good enough imo.

What I've always found funny with the mask thing is that they have sold it the completely wrong way to people.

Now sure, putting something in front of your face will always reduce spread because logic there. But generally you wear these sorts of masks to stop breathing in things rather than breathing out.

So why haven't they ran with that? Wear the mask and you won't breathe the virus in. Technically still the same logic if everyone wore one.

Covid is also putting serious pressure on hospitals in Wales. Dr Ami Jones, an anaesthetist and intensive care doctor in south Wales, warned in a tweet on Saturday that while hospitals in Liverpool “are totally overwhelmed by Covid patients we are not far away from this in Wales” and that some of those affected were “fit and well young patients [in their] 30s, 40s and 50s]”.

Seen mentions that police will be able to get access to patient information from the track and trace app in case by case basis.

Great idea.....that will get people to download it..........

Lots of stick not enough carrot... It will put fair few people off from reporting mild symptoms. Financial assistance is just not in place. We also know what our police are like they will hold to the information for ever more, without consent which undermines their entire principle of existence.

Firstly everyone has savings or bank of family. Then use your credit card or overdraft facility, they have had a hard time of late! If these are all maxed out it's the food bank and you will be deemed irresponsible.

To take an anti app standpoint (don't worry , I do actually have it).

People main concern with the app was that they don't want to be 'tracked' and see it as some sort of Orwellian surveillance tool. So if the police can access the information upon request then that won't have people rushing out to download it.

Although I would say anyone who may be at risk of this case by case scenario probably wouldn't be downloading the app to begin with.

Plus it breaks dpa for the NHS somewhat unless there is a legal application. If there is , no problem whatsoever.

I don't that fact it uses Bluetooth renders it near useless, since when does Bluetooth distinguish floors walls, this virus certainly does... Plus all the Serco stuff reaffirms. I dont agree that people who dont use the app have something to hide, many just cannot afford too.

Anyway, all I hear is very comfortable people like Cummings like Johnson like that Scottish MP, flouting rules themselves while wagging their finger at us plebs.

This virus thrives in deprivation, give people the assistance to isolate many more will comply...

From the Guardian live blog

"In the meantime, Merkel’s government has announced it is going to subsidise bars and restaurants purchasing patio heaters to allow diners and drinkers to spend more time outside during the winter months."

Sensible move but why are they announcing it in late October. Should have been preparing for this in summer already.
