Would a 2 week lockdown even make a significant impact? The last lockdown was significantly longer and that still did not work in the long term.
What were you expecting it to do?

It did work, look at the infection and death rates. The virus was never going to go away though, what the lockdown was supposed to do, as well as rapidly slowing the transmission, was to buy some time. Time to create and roll out, a test, track and isolate programme that would be capable of managing viral transmission when we came out of lockdown.

Only they got that bobble head Dom on the job and he somehow managed to spunk away £12BN on something that didn’t work. He’s a genius though.

Now we’re paying the price for that abject failure with a second wave that they have little or no control over. So we’re seeing disjointed nonsense like they’re lobbing out now.

They’ve learned precisely nothing. Same mistakes repeated 7 months later.

You can't just do everything the scientists advisors say at this point. They are health professionals but politicians must decide what is best for the nation's wellbeing as a whole. Another lockdown has enormous costs. "Following the science" winds me up these days. No, we need to strike the right balance.

The tracking system is the only solution. They need to sort it out asap.

Yeah and they’re doing such a great job of managing the Nations wellbeing as a whole aren’t they. Yeah we should trust them over the medical experts, great shout

This lot are geniuses, oh and like cronyism...

All the local council leaders, who have surprisingly been on the same page, have made this point. Local test and trace is working at 96% level compared to 50% centrally.

Theres something amiss when all the council's are saying the same thing, want more control and just need financial backing.

Witty is wanting a full lockdown. Then there's a lot of Tory backbenchers who don't want hospitality closing.

It's fell into a mess.

I don't really trust anyone involved and credibility is extremely low right now. I just believe another lockdown is enormously counterproductive. If that's the only solution our government or advisors can come up with, then we have big problems.

It's been 8 months now and we need long term solutions. Lockdowns were short term measures and the right measure back in March but they are only about buying time for the health service.

Yeah, I mean who to trust on this, a committee of medical experts or Johnson & Sunak. Toughie

Most sensible people ought to know excluding Tory sheeple, that its the Government receiving advice from some scientists in SAGE (opinion not shared by all scientists, DOH!) however, it is the Government without fail making the policy decisions.

Anyway, remember everyone to have a meal with your pint so Covid knows to stay away, Phoarrrr doomsters!

That is completely backwards though - the scientists have been saying a proper track and trace system is vital for months. Their advice has been correct, which you can see by how many countries who followed similar advice have dealt with this properly.

It’s the government who screwed that up, and have put us now in a situation where a complete clart like IDS can stand up in the Commons yesterday and say we need to balance the economy and saving lives without someone shooting him. They aren’t going to suddenly become competent.

Hey you guys i think we know now that the tory/spiv garbage are on the back foot , the fookin clowns have had 7 months to test the people but no they have outsourced to their spiv mates millions of pounds into a crap useless cowboy failure good luck form Manchester to you Scousers with this disaster

What a shambles our government are, with these guidelines and the way they’ve handled the last 8 months this type of life will be here for at least another 12 months.
There’s no strategy from them and no one can see the end of this, like I’ve said before the aftermath of this is going to be devastating because it will effect so many families, health, homes, businesses.
The government handouts will be focused on London to keep that thriving and the rest of the country will be left to pick itself up from their knees.

Very few jobs will be out there and taxes will be raised in time, to claw the money back they’ve handed out during this. They will use the NHS as the reason why taxes need to be raised.
Absolutely Grim times ahead.

PS. If you voted Tory you’re scum

We have the effects of Brexit to come yet, so yeah, proper grim times ahead.

I was almost out of the door yesterday lads, I almost stepped out onto the streets, but I looked at myself in the mirror and thought to myself 'do I really want to be like them, do I really want to behave like a Tory MP and break the rules?' and I closed the door and sat back on my couch whilst watching videos of an erotic nature.

I have no faith in anyone involved anymore. The government are responsible as they decide on policy, but I'm fed up hearing about more lockdowns.

We do need a balance though, regardless of who said it. It's hardly a controversial statement

We don’t - a balance assumes that there are only two outcomes possible.

The vast majority of countries worldwide have a lower death rate *and* have had less economic damage than we have, which should tell you that the choice we are being told about is an entirely false one.

All IDS (and the balance argument) was saying is that we should accept some deaths as the price of “getting on” with things.

Have to agree to disagree on this. I think unfortunately there are decisions to make and none of them are nice decisions.
