Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

People should not be travelling out of their lockdown locality in England to go on holiday in Wales, as it's non essential... Surely Johnson COVID marshalls should be whispering to the authority's on their holidaying neighbors?

Why ? It's not illegal it's only guidance to not travel from a hotspot, obviously people with common sense won't do it but those who do will not be breaking any law and the blame of it spreading lies solely with Boris and his incompetent "restrictions" (let's be honest they're barely restrictive when it's more guidance than rule)

The request for Military aid has been asked across Merseyside. MACA has been requested for Liverpool for EHO support.

Not enough LA capacity for Environmental Health so the ask will be to support Covid enforcement framework across Merseyside.

(Just to preempt the 'omg the military are on our streets' people)
Seems like Steve Rotherham is taking it seriously. Good to hear.

I think that we're heading for another national lockdown, most likely at the start of the Half-term holidays in two weeks and it'll be timed with the hope that we can enjoy Christmas with our families. However, what happens after Christmas is anyone's guess. I really feel for businesses who are having to steer their way through this as well as Brexit. Would a two week lockdown every six weeks after Christmas until April/May provide some form of predictability whilst at the same time getting us through the most dangerous months?

Just reading the sky news summary of today.

Tier 3 - Liverpool basically lol

I know cases are high like but isn't it a bit weird that only one city out of the lot was singled out in such a way? Not even north west , just Liverpool and surrounding area.

Just wierd man, you would think it was more logical to apply measures to a region rather than a single city.

January is gonna be proper grim IMO

Do you mind if I ask if you're keeping to the quarantine rules.?
Yes, obviously. Had to cancel a GP appointment scheduled for today. Have spent a week gardening (when possible) and catching up on tv shows lol I understand why we have to quarantine of course, but not being able to even get some exercise by just going for a walk around the block is crazy.

:(

Disheartening isn’t it Orlyfrand? :(

Yeah buddy. I watched the update tonight live and just thought "what a load of tosh" - and as I have said before, our household stuck really strictly to the rules from the off. The test turnaround time is supposed to have been on one of its worst performing days today too. Useless.

Why would you blanket the whole NW (massive area of the country) when some spots have things miles more under control?

The rates were dropping in Manchester etc and in the North East for them to be classified as Tier 2. Manchester were going to Tier 1 but saw a fall from 500+ a day to 300 and they argued that point, so were dropped. Merseyside is still around 500.

To be fair, I think that will be the case for Liverpool that in a few weeks cases will drop off just like in Manchester when the new rules were brought in.

I'd be surprised if it was anywhere near a month in a Tier 1 status.

Because the northwest is a problem area , even if the heart of it is Liverpool.

Up until today, it was always north west this north west that. Same as it was north east , not specifically a city.

So it's just odd to me that measures just target the one city. Only one location on the entire country that will enter immediate financial hardships for business owners in the relevant sectors.
