Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I never really understood why this didn't happen tbh. Why when the number of cases were low did schools shut down for a holiday (after being at reduced capacity for months), and then re-open as case numbers were kicking up again. Baffling level of rigid thinking.
Same as my work. They’re wanting us to go back into the offices in a couple of weeks when cases are higher in this area than first time round. I think a large part of it is that they’ve had so many meetings, planning for a return that the management are scared of being made to look like it was all a colossal waste of time. Which, it largely was.

If you want to have something to eat or drink with your friends though without having to worry about being in an enclosed space then it's a bit of an arse.

Yeah, it depends on relaxation of this rule about not visiting others at the moment. If that's lifted, you can conceivably sit out in a garden with a patio heater on crisp winter days (which we get a lot of) and chat for a while.

Other countries that have much worse weather than us do the outdoor stuff - and we can adapt.

Interesting. This is Germany's most famous virologist. In German but here he's saying that the flu season in Germany ended abruptly in March and in southern hemisphere countries' (e.g. Aus and Sth Africa) winters there was hardly any flu. Also other viruses were much less prevalent (apart from Picornavirus whatever that is). In response to a question about whether the hygiene measures have had an effect on other viruses.

I suppose that follows from lockdowns that took us from the arse end of the bad weather and into a nice warm spring.

It’s looking like my son has Covid, his mate who he goes to college with tested positive on Tuesday and now my lad has woke up with no sense of taste or smell and has a chesty cough.
Trying to get a test done but struggling to find one locally.

Exact same as my lads symptoms.

Whilst you’re waiting to get a test my advice would be to make a list of all his school friends who’s he been with in the last 48hrs and try to contact their parents to give them the heads up.

If they’re responsible they should shelve any plans in lieu of their kids developing symptoms.

Same goes for anything like footy etc.

Email his school too ( I know it’s the weekend) so they know first thing Monday morning and can start the ball rolling.

Practically for the family he needs isolating now, keep him upstairs in his room.

Have a load of sanitary stuff upstairs as you’ll need to wipe down things like door handles, the toilet, taps etc constantly.

From now on, he has his own mug, plate, knife and fork etc, which will need proper disinfecting after each time he uses them.

Main thing is keep him isolated.

He’ll be off school for 10 days if the positive test comes back and everyone in your house needs to self isolate too ( 14 days if the test comes back )

Anything else give me a shout.

I know this is a huge thread now but can this be made some form of sticky post? It contains great advice for everyone.

Do you completely lose taste? I'm ill at the moment but pretty sure it's just a cold.

I can taste, just a bit bunged up and hot/cold. No cough.

Lad in work was feeling like crap about a couple of weeks ago, but still carried on coming in. He phoned up to get a test 2 weeks ago on the Tuesday was told to self-isolate immediately and managed to get one for the Wednesday after he'd finished work, which he still came in for.
Had his test and was informed he would find out within 48 hours and should continue to self-isolate until he received the results, he came into work still on the Thursday and Friday doing overtime as well both days. Friday evening a few of the lads went the pub after work for a beer and low and behold this balloon turned up and sat with them for a couple of hours, then buggered off to 2 more pubs when a couple of his mates turned up.
Saturday morning he informed our manager he'd got a positive test, he sent him the email to prove it and ensured he got full sick pay and would have to self-isolate for 2 weeks. Saturday afternoon he went the pub and met up with some of the lads from work who didn't have a clue he had tested positive, before joining another group of his mates for an afternoon session around town, before heading back to the local and walking around and for some bizzare reason high fiving everybody in the gaff he knew.
Saturday evening he went round every local in the area meeting up with some of the staff from work and stayed out till 1am absolutley shoitefaced, (he considers himself a hardcore red, been everywhere knows everything about football, had to give his season ticket up though because of work, and can't get a ticket these days cos of foreigners... even though us at Goodison still manage to make time to go the game).
Sunday he was up and out early into town for a quick few before heading back to his local area taking in three pubs before settling down in the lacal gaff to watch the shoite play. He stood pontificating aboutl how they're the greatest team ever to all and sundry before eventually staggering home at 11pm.
The manager in work has been going through who this bell has been in touch with and informing them they now have to self-isolate for 2 weeks on statutory sick pay, people are panicking and phoning for tests, but are told unless you have the symptoms you can't get a test. Meanwhile this idiot is now spotted on Monday out shopping without a mask on and chatting to everyone he meets like a latter day Parkinson.
As the week starts to go on a whole clutch a people in work have become ill and tested positive for Covid, including one poor chap who had only been back a short while after having underlying health concerns, always wears a mask, gloves etc... eats his dinner and has his breaks in his car, but billy big bollocks decided to go and chat to him, he apparently is in a bad way and has been hospitalised. Work have know had to inform PHE to inform them of the cluster, everything has been deep cleaned and track and trace have been getting in touch informing everybody and everywhere this nugget has been.
Unfortunately as far as they are concerned he hasn't been out of the house since he first phoned up requesting a test nearly a fortnight ago Tuesday. But this turd has been frolicking around for a further 7 days, only stopping going out when he's began receiving some strongly worded calls to his phone which he's now stopped answering.
Swear some people are massive idiots to put it lightly...

Cheers mate.

Yes my missus is already sorting all the sanitising stuff out for him.

He’s fine and I’m not worried at all.
He’s contacted all his mates, a couple of them had it few months back. Need to inform the college once he gets the test results but think we will wait 4/5 days for his results.

All my locals have been packed whether they shut at 12 or 10pm.

Which is good for business in your area.

There's six pubs within a mile of my old place and I'd say 3 have been busy, 3 quiet. But most of them have been quiet after 10:30/11. The one that was busy up until later was the one that was packed last night.

But it's not really reducing the risk of the spread. An hour and a half difference.

And the rules are just so illogical. I'm happy to follow them but you've got to wear a mask to walk in but you can sit down without one. It's all table service but the waiters/waitresses are obviously going around the pub anyway so that doesn't really stop or even limit potential spread.

After the 6 months are up this isn't gonna be gone in March so what are we gonna do? Carry this on like it's perfectly normal behaviour and actually achieving anything?

Another couple of things :

Book an online slot with a supermarket for home delivery as non of you will be able to go out until the quarantine expiry expires.

Go and get as many packs of paracetamol and ibuprofen as you can get today, as the supermarket will only deliver 2 packs by law.
