Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I've not heard one respected scientist agree that the virus is itself, becoming less potent. Apart from the odd outlier, they all seem to agree that, in itself, it's pretty much as it was in March /April, and it's secondary factors like the above which explain why we're not seeing increasing hospitalisations.

Incidentally, hospitalisations are on the up in Spain. Nowhere near as bad as the first time round though.
I've read that while there is still an unprotected population the virus has no need to mutate (although it does require that it doesn't kill all the hosts altogether and could mutate for that reason). If a vaccine is introduced it might have to mutate in order to keep alive - evolve into something else.

Personally, my non-scientific hunch is that it will behave like most COVID viruses, so won't change much as it mutates, and won't mutate at a lightning rate.

I also think the most likely scenario is that it'll be around in pretty much it's current form for the rest of my life ( and beyond, but beyond that point it would be unfair to vault me to say I'm wrong ). Vaccination, or "natural" herd immunity is unlikely to eridicate it, so, once we've got working vaccines, there'll be sporadic, relatively minor, outbreaks here and there, mostly centred on populations where immunity via vaccination is low - either caused by apathy, antivax knobheads or poor government.

On the whole, minus the poor government reason, as long as vaccination was made available to the poor of the world, I could live happily enough in that scenario.

What are these stats?
"Hospital figures - 6 is the announced total" total of what? According to todays government stats there are 764 patients in hospital. What have there been 6 of?

So these anti virus protests in London today, with 10000 people turning up to protest tells us one thing.

How pathetic protests have become in this country.

Why is it that if 10k assemble for remaining in the EU or BLM that is a credible argument but 10k protest against what we get told about covid will be passed off like a joke?

Because it is a joke, we know those in London today are talking out of their arse.

Maybe we should stop jumping on every band wagon now a mass protest that has no credit is happening? Just because people protest in numbers doesn't mean it's a valid point or shouldn't have opposition. Today proves that they should have opposition, even if the others have less of it than today.

I feel today's protests are again motivated by Americans rather than British people just believing what they are protesting for. Same as mask conformity , we know what they are protesting for is ridiculous and completely wrong.

Just maybe we should apply just a touch of that skeptical attitude to any protest? Rather than repeat what the other ones say?

I was reading an article today which was questioning why people are still getting it, but hardly any of them are being hospitalised and even less are dying.

The premise of the article was that maybe it`s blowing itself out and losing it`s potency.

Only time will tell.
You know what , the thought had never occured to me before. It was only reading other posts in this thread over the past week and others simply suggesting it that put the thought in my mind in regards to the virus becoming less potent.

Be interesting the next few months anyhow . I believe that 12 months from now we can look back and see some of the ridiculous talk about the virus as what it is. Things that people desperately want to believe to be true just wasn't, from odd symptoms to more political stand points . What they will be , we will find out same as we will find out what was true as well.

Perhaps we will see this next period as an overreaction in hindsight given all the panic still being drummed up? Or it was pre warning what was to come? As you say time will tell.
