Makes you wonder why wigan was put under restrictions though, as its only on the edge of greater Manchester and is a large borough.Yet Lancashire being closed down bit by bit .

I presume it's political with two main drivers. Firstly, because Greater Manchester has an elected mayor, it's more autonomous than a county so can be seen to act collectively. Secondly, it's to try and limit the amount of blame being apportioned to the Asian community.

The latter might seem a bit PC, and it's a bit harsh on Wiginers, but just on here, you can see there's an undercurrent of Islamophobia from some posters, so you can kind of understand the thinking. To be fair, it's not just Gtr Manchester, much the same thing has happened in Rossendale, which has an average level of infections, but is subject to restrictions.

For what it's worth, although areas with relatively high Asian populations are currently the focus, I think going forward, we'll see similar issues in quite a few deprived areas, regardless of the ethnic mix.

Melbourne's 2nd wave is hitting very similar parameters and typical locations - but the death toll is going off the scale

1st wave - the whole of Australia 112
2nd wave - 95% Melbourne so far 157
