I'm sure it's a great move for yourself and countless others, but surely you will miss the bon homie of actually being together and interacting with colleagues and friends...

The mental health aspect of this virus is gonna rise up like a latter day Kracken and bite a major part of the community on the arse...

Staying in, working from home, as my missus is advocating is inherently wrong. We are all human and need some level of contact, it's healthy and necessary...
Images on a computer screen....... Nah...

Err??

But we can go out as much as we want now to interact with lots of people so not sure I agree with the bold. I'd have agreed beginning of lockdown but not now.

I worked from home for three and a half years solid mate and I can tell you from experience that it’s not good for the mind, body or soul.

The Winters especially are crushing.

Your fuel / leccy bills go through the roof and also ended up with a trapped nerve in one of my arms from sitting in a non office chair for hours on end.

A couple of days a week - yes.

Permanently- no.

I guess it is situation dependent but I'll show my normal day vs current and you'll see what I mean.

Normal

Wake up at 4.30am, leave the house at 5am, drive to pick a couple of people up then onto office (hour commute) to start for 6.30am. Work till 3.15pm with bouts of procrastination where I can chat football or online shop. Drive home, drop people off, get in the door for 5.30pm. The rest of my evening's then consist of eating, housework, exercise, chilling or whatever.

Current

Wake up at 7am, log on, go for a shower, work till 3.45pm but when I'd normally have lapses in work now I can go and do housework, nip to the shop etc. Still get all my work done, have lots of MS Teams meetings etc. After work my time is completely free to do whatever I want then, don't need to go to sleep as much.

Sure sometimes I miss the crack of the office but there wasn't much of it anyway and now I'm getting more free time to go see friends/family in the evenings.

I can also get a killer hangover after a Saturday on the booze and not be nervous about feeling wank in the office :D

Amazed the news these past couple of days has focused primarily on the poor souls coming back from Spain having to quarantine on their return.

Were they not aware their holiday might come at a risk or cost, were they all asleep under rocks when people were dying in the hundreds daily in Spain only a short while back.

I must say, the majority of those whinging and moaning about it whilst being interviewed have come across as a bit thick.

Right on

The guy going on holiday isn't what the person has an issue with. Can't you see what the issue is?
Have another read of his post mate, I would imagine he's questioning that when the lad comes back off his hols he apparently won't have to self isolate for 14 days because he's classed as a key worker.
Sorry i get it now, literally miss read it

Why didn't you just buy an office chair and stick a jumper on? ;)

Wine friday online or a workmate 'meeting' online is never the same same as human contact. My missus being home all the time is severely impacting on my enjoying porn on my dinner break... (I live quite near to where I work and on my break I go home and watch X-Hamster or an equivalent site, I'm a porn aficionado. I bloody well love it)

She thinks its great being home all the time but I'm not getting my afternoon release and instead I'm having to chat about bollocks as she can't talk about her rubbish to her mates in work as they're all annoying the shoite out their partners.
It's a vicious circle... bugger off back to work and let me watch midget porn ya bitch

To me, unless people are taking the piss, it's a long-term strategy for lots of businesses. Should reduce traffic on the roads, reduce carbon emissions, people are spending less of their money on travel, eating out at lunches, getting more sleep, easier childcare etc.

There are just so many benefits for me personally.

Still for no idea when I am back, they are opening the office at the end of next month if you want to back. I won't be.

When everything is back to 'normal', I'll be WFH three days a week which is a good balance.

Yeh there's been talk our offices will turn into "collab hubs" where we can meet up for meetings etc. if necessary. All our desks have been de-personalised already during lockdown to become agile workstations. I can't see me going back to 5 days office working for years now.

You can get extra payments from your employer, should your circumstances suit:

Obviously a bit late for yourself but may apply to others. My bills have practically doubled but this has been offset by not spending £60 a week on petrol.
