750 deaths in this country in the last week; Germany in the same period: 63.The ONS weekly community testing results are out today which confirm that the infection rate is continuing to fall. They estimate infection rate at around 1700 a day, and around a third of these are being captured by our testing system, which is up from a fifth a couple of weeks ago.
They estimate that around 14000 are currently infected across the UK, which works out at 1 in 3900 people across the UK. I'm sure last week that figure was 1 in 2200 (may have been the week before), but either way these figures are heartening as they come at a time when we are opening up the economy.
The official new daily of new infections that have tested positive is 642 from nearly 110,000 tests. I think that's something like the 9th day in a row it has been below a 1000.

Stop focussing on a trend from dire to less dire and concentrate on the fatality rate. It's still high and it's plateaued out over the last 3 weeks or so.
It was madness to unlock the economy. Utter madness. I fear there will be a terrible reckoning.
Still, at least some selfish gets can lift a few weights down the gym, stuff a pastie down their gobs and get pissed in an ale house. That's more than worth it.
You’re talking about 750 weekly deaths in a population of 66 million people as if it’s an apocalyptic number.
In the same time period 10,500 people in the UK will have died from other causes.
As an aside, where is this figure of 750 deaths which occurred in the past week coming from ? Would be interested to see the data.
Yes, although every death is tragic, there needs to be a sense of perspective here. It is a tiny proportion of the UK population now, and the numbers continue to fall. We simply had to start the economy, we cannot afford to see a complete breakdown of society. Yes, millions are set to lose their jobs/businesses, but the longer it is left the effect on society could be profound. As long as the numbers are coming down, and the virus is on the retreat, then we must get the cogs moving again- albeit in a sensible and socially distanced manner. You’re talking about 750 weekly deaths in a population of 66 million people as if it’s an apocalyptic number.

I'm sure if you say it really quick that 750 deaths doesn't sound that bad, or 66,000 excess deaths in thr period of Covid19.You’re talking about 750 weekly deaths in a population of 66 million people as if it’s an apocalyptic number.

We're clearly not social distancing, but its kinda fun ♡
Count again: 1st July to 8th July.I said nothing about 66,000 deaths. Nice strawman.
The link you provided doesn’t show 750 deaths in the past week, it shows 511.

As for the 66,000 who died: following your logic 66,000 people dying over 5 months would be a fraction of people dying of other factors, presumably.
Be consistent, sonny Jim.
