What are Pillar 2 cases? What are Pillar 1 come to that?
Tests in the UK are carried out through a number of different routes:

  • Pillar 1: swab testing in Public Health England (PHE) labs and NHS hospitals for those with a clinical need, and health and care workers
  • Pillar 2: swab testing for the wider population, as set out in government guidance
  • Pillar 3: serology testing to show if people have antibodies from having had COVID-19
  • Pillar 4: serology and swab testing for national surveillance supported by PHE, ONS, Biobank, universities and other partners to learn more about the prevalence and spread of the virus and for other testing research purposes, for example on the accuracy and ease of use of home testing
See the government’s national testing strategy for more information on the different pillars.

These different routes are administered in different ways and that has an influence on how they are reported. Reporting is described in more detail below.

It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it

Surprisingly arousing.

This is stupid mate stupid.

I'm not going to bother because quite frankly you don't seem to get it and it would be a waste of time.
It's common sense. If masks are so great at preventing the spread of illness then let's all wear one all of the time. Would save the nhs a fortune. If you think a mask is good enough to prevent the spread of covid 19 then its surely good enough to prevent the spread of all viruses.

I personally think it would be great if more Westerners adopted the Japanese habit of wearing masks when they felt they were coming down with a cold/flu.

But up until recently you couldn’t get a lot of men to even wash their hands after using the toilet so absent a raging pandemic I think their regular use is unlikely.

Haha the state of this!

No one is claiming it halts the spread.

It's a measure they have identified to at least stop you unknowingly spread bacteria from your mouth. It's akin to doctors and nurses wearing them in hospitals and in surgical areas.

I mean are you being thick on purpose just to disagree.

Sorry I should ask where you got your doctorate.
