That’s quite a simplistic and flawed statement. The economic damage from not locking down were we to reach the spread of March time would be worse than just letting things happen.

We will never get back to March levels.

But you are a fool if you think these Tory murderers will lockdown again, hundreds dying a week and they are re-opening everything they can.

The 70s don't benefit the economy, they are expendable.

Hundreds dying per week wasn’t the reason for the lockdown measures though.

Lockdown was because without those measures thousands would have died daily.

Yes, lockdown was to give us the ability to fight the virus, which we can do much better now.

We have some PPE in place, we have better ways of treating the virus and "some" people follow the social distance rules fully, it very much served its purpose, which I personally feel as tho there will be no need or desire to lockdown again.

I’m getting a bit fed up with these guys...it’s just like the old ‘eggs are good for you’ ‘eggs are bad for you’ ‘eggs are good for you’......

”Prolonged periods of lockdown cocooning the public from germs could leave people dangerously vulnerable to new viruses, a leading epidemiologist has warned.

Sunetra Gupta, professor of theoretical epidemiology at the University of Oxford, fears intense social distancing could actually weaken immune systems because people are not exposed to germs and so do not develop defences that could protect them against future pandemics.”......

She's a scientific outlier mate, wanted lockdown lifted earlier, thinks it's possible far more have been infected than most scientists do, and, mainly because of that, thinks the fatality rate might be much lower than most do.

She was part of the Oxford team that thought that up to 50% of the UK might have been infected by the end of March.

Her views have been misrepresented quite a bit, because she's often been misquoted, or at least only the more extreme parts of her views have been quoted, but she does come across as a bit like a poster on a forum who's stated her position, and refuse to budge.

Oh, she's not a guy by the way you bad, bad misogynist !

Re the comment “so do not develop defenses that could protect them against future pandemics” - I’m all for advance planning but we’re only a few months into the current pandemic and whilst that one is increasing in my region I’ll use the “bird in the hand is worth two in a bush” approach to pandemic protection!

I just saw this.
Oklahoma not much better but much smaller population. Seriously getting worried about family.
Hope all the family stay safe x

North Carolina seems to be doing better than your southern namesake thankfully - does that match what you are seeing at your hospital?

Our system wide numbers are down...47 now across several hospitals in the east which is around 30 less than our peak. It’s been under 50 for the past week or so
