The thing is, I get the need to open up again. I get why they are worried and it’s their livelihood etc. But this lockdown is over now. There’s no going back. We won’t lockdown again. And we are just going to have to accept that we’ll lose loved ones. Provided that people appreciate that fact, that risk, then sound.
I’d rather have my family alive and be out of work with no money but I don’t expect everyone else to think that way.
But that’s the choice they are making.
Accept it and let’s just focus on other things instead.
Those people better not criticise the government or health services when they lose someone close to them though.

Essentially it's right to say we won't lock down again, it's impossible financially for that to be an option the country can take for a second time, at least for the foreseeable future.

It would be fine if those people were making those decisions for all their own family and friends and sure that they are also of the same mind too, but that's not the reality even if all their 'family and friends' grouping agree to taking that risk is worthwhile. The unfortunate thing is they're also in effect saying to complete strangers that they're taking the risk for them too without the strangers (some perhaps vulnerable) also having a say. Viruses won't discriminate in who they attack and once a family and friends grouping has been exposed it's more than likely to infect outside that grouping even without a high 'R' factor.

There is though the very real option of local regional lockdowns being reinstated and enforced with punitive measures on activities, distancing and travel. Unlike much of the south and especially London, Liverpool with one of the higher national Covid rates is currently on the way to making itself the outstanding favourite to be the first to have one.

The money is pretty much irrelevant. Once you get to the stage that your health service is going to become overwhelmed then there is no choice but to go in to lock down. Society would get to the stage in which it simply cannot function properly.
Let’s see shall we.

Been for a walk by the river, and of the half a dozen pubs doing takeaway beers, I'd be amazed if the people outside were a metre apart, let alone two. Impossible to police so it's a free for all.

The CEO of Marstons Brewery has said that his pubs will not take the name and contact details of customers but will leave a pen and paper on the bar, will allow customers to order at the bar and will not insist that staff wear face masks. This should go well.....

That’s quite a simplistic and flawed statement. The economic damage from not locking down were we to reach the spread of March time would be worse than just letting things happen.
There is now way that the stimulus we have already seen can be repeated. There won’t be a furlough scheme. The next lockdown will mean full on economic downturn, redundancies, defaults and bankruptcy with very little in the tank to provide support for the economy.

it’s why track and trace was so vital.

we won’t see lockdown again like we did in March. It’s politically impossible now and lockdowns have a shelf life.

We are in this for the long haul now.
