Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

We are a few weeks behind remember. Trend is encouraging, if everyone just does stuff correctly, hopefully it will be in those numbers soon.

As far as I am concerned, full lock down is still in place. Essential (ish) shopping, meds, thats it. Indoors the rest of the time.

edit. First wave? I remain to be convinced of that still.
You dont think there'll be second wave? I REALLY hope you're right. History doesn't suggest you will be though. There's always a second convulsion.

Like you, I dont know. What I meant was I am not convinced this is not our 2nd wave. We just didnt realise it was here for maybe 4 months.

There's not enough time elapsed for this to have mutated to something less destructive, which, as far as I'm aware, is how second waves occur and eventually how we see the back of pandemics.

...which is appalling in a European context where all civilised nation's have deaths in the tens or scores at most.

There has been no end to the first wave of this virus in the UK. NONE. It's been allowed to plateau at a horrific level.

Again a lot of the data is accumulated, particularly in hospitals, over a matter of days. In terms of actual 24 hour data, you’re looking at figures in the double digit range

New Zealand has lifted all restrictions today, (or yesterday), cos no infections for ages, ergo, its gone. Borders still closed. Well, airports basically.

Was their recent outbreak their 1st wave, or their 2nd? They dont know, cos like us, they have only needed to lock down after this outbreak.

It came out yesterday that China had cases as far back as October. With the considerable benefit of hindsight, Mrs R displayed Covid symptoms on New Years Eve, followed by a Hypoxic cardiac. After 3 days in the Bristol BRI ICU for a different condition.

Looking back, everyday I visited her, from 27th Dec till discharge in mid Feb, as I drove slowly past part of Bristol Uni, most Asian students had face masks. I didnt give it a thought as I know urban living Asians often wear them when at home.

Looking back now, I am not so sure I was correct. I may well be wrong, (she wasnt tested for covid as far as I know), but when she was in the ICU for 5 weeks, Covid was still a news item just before the weather over here.

Made me think. Or lock down is messing me up!
