It’s mainly in a book called the sports gene, which if you want to track down I fully endorse:

Decentish similar synopsis is found in this article - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2000/nov/26/johnarlidge.theobserver

Things like leg length, hip width etc that you never really think about are determined by genetics. Yes there will be an element of Socio-economic influence, but to completely ignore the importance of genetics is crazy, which is probably also the case with COVID.
I'll have a read, but genetics seems like a very lazy explanation for it rather than, based on the studies I've shared, socioeconomic factors and environmental advantages.

You doing alright mate?
Yep doing OK thanks -watering, and feeding my new landscaped garden -
My son helps me to clean the pond filter out - got the water crystal clear posted it on the wildlife thread using the GOT 12 weeks indoors lucky I have a large garden .....
stooped watching the news on TV with the people on the rostrum ......get the news later on in the day....
I hope this virus has blown itself out tbh ......

Can you read? I said "usually".

In any case, your first example is entirely explained by the environment they were born into. The majority of Kenyan distance runners, for example, come from the Kenyan Highlands, 7,000 feet above sea level. That makes their lung capacity a lot greater than people living at sea level.
Yes, you said usually, but using three examples where it’s been shown that genetics play a part show that usually is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the presumption that it’s down to socio-economic and cultural factors, especially when exploring the outcomes experienced by humans of differing racial profiles, as demonstrated in this 21 year old study which links to the ACE which COVID attaches to - https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/med/staff/cappuccio/publications/jhypert99whssaceid.pdf

Why are Jamicans really good at sprinting?

I dont know the answer, but I would guess that the last white sprinter to win the mens 100m gold at an olympics would be Alan Wells in Moscow.

Just musing really. Brazilians are better at football than Icelanders.

It's partly cultural (champions in a sport beget an identity and that begets more champions) and partly genetic (fast twitch muscles).

In a particularly fascinating chapter, Mr. Epstein investigates an old theory that purports to explain why one small country, Jamaica, produces so many Olympic sprinters. The notion is that strong Africans were selected as slaves, that the strongest of them survived the voyage to Jamaica, and that the strongest survivors eventually escaped slavery and cloistered themselves in a remote region to form an isolated “warrior” gene stock that now produces world-class athletes.

It makes a convenient story. But it is belied by the DNA research of Yannis Pitsiladis, a biologist at the University of Glasgow, who finds no genetically distinct subgroup of Jamaican sprinters. It appears that Jamaica churns out sprinters because almost everyone on the island tries the sport.

Recent positive drug tests from two prominent sprinters may also help explain Jamaica’s dominance, and it’s disappointing that the book devotes little space to the interplay of doping and genetics.

Noticed politicians are trying to make going to someone's house illegal now. Go outside in big groups as much as you want but go to someone's house and you are arrested and possible sent to prison. I can shop in the Asda with potentially what , 50 plus people at the same time but can't visit my mum for fear potentially of arrest.

You couldn't make it up could you.

Oh and the small point of how many of the politicians in power alone have done just that in the past but now they want it illegal for us normal folk, you know the ones who haven't seen loved ones in weeks.

This is introducing herd immunity back into agenda by simply allowing people to meet up. Why else would the government allow groups of 6 people, big shops opening , encouraged to go outside including isolating people. Technically it is safer to go to someone's house as they can sanitise the place before and after . Can't do that in the middle of a park.

Yet they don't mind people going back to work....

It's odd in my opinion. There's one thing to not say anything about visiting someone's house but another to try and make it illegal. Why be so eager to get everyone outside ? Opening business and getting people back to work I can understand, it's an economic issue for them . It was always going to happen this month anyway.

But to go to such lengths to force people out the house? Well not force but encourage people to go outside in groups again? The only answer to that is hers immunity , which is a pretty big gamble if they don't already know the status of the pandemic.
