Not sure why people are arguing about buying bottled water really.

It was my fault mate. The water down here is fine. No one is not on the mains, yet folk are buying tons of bottled water. More an observation than anything. Maybe they are flying to Spain for Easter and will take it with them, but if so, they are thicker than I thought.

Then you find a stream and you filter it...

You collect rain water (lots in the UK) and filter it if you want to...

Collect sea water and buy a filter...
Look I've accepted there are lots of people who don't need to buy bottled water who do. The point is there are people who rely on bottled water albeit a minority who may not have access to a clean stream or live near the sea. Anyway it doesn't really matter

(Not aimed at you before I start)

Why? People don’t want to live in fear. It’s a horrible narrative that’s formed in the past few weeks that we should be afraid of everything and everyone. Up until today there’s been more people killed on the road than there has by this virus, yet people still get in their cars and drive to the supermarket to panic buy crap they don’t actually need.

This country, perhaps even the world, seems to have been overcome by this very odd notion that individuals need to become these ingratiating beings for the good of others. Sorry, but it’s not my responsibility to curtail what I do for the fear of infecting someone by proxy somewhere down the line. Follow decent hygiene and all the rest, fine but to say I should be happy to give up my liberties and way of life so that someone at risk doesn’t become critically ill 6 or 7 infections down the line? That’s mental. It’s up to them to look after themselves. It’s like taking cars off the road, booze off the shelves and anything more Calorie loaded than a carrot.

I don’t give a flying one if your granny is 91 and has asthma. Tell her to stay the eff in her house until the threats gone. The rest of us can carry on living.
Proper rancid post, this.

I'm worried slightly more now because of the supermarket situation. I also feel it will get worse as we are only at "stage 1" with "stage 2" imminent
Hopefully even if the stores are still shut they organize a way to do local deliveries of food like they in China. Certainly hope so as my parents are in a high risk group and with all the travel bans/flight restrictions don’t think I could get out to them now even if I needed to :(

Worries me that outlets are referencing the decline in cases in China.

People there have been barricaded into their homes for weeks on end. Once those restrictions ease I believe we’ll see further outbreaks there and this idea of isolation being a cure for the spread will be debunked.

As with Measles the way to stop this being a never ending issue is to allow the majority of the populace to develop immunity. In the absence of a vaccine that will have to mean infection.

No. The restrictions have been eased a lot already, with people going back to work now. People still use masks/gloves and social distancing. The main thing they do now is monitoring. The population is divided into red, yellow, and green. Not got the virus (green). Maybe have the virus (yellow). Definitely has the virus (red). Yellow will have to self isolate. And red will be taken by the spacemen.

Herd immunity is the most irresponsible thing imaginable. Giving that Italy's health care system was nearly wiped out by the numbers as they are now, can you imagine what would have happened if they had been allowed to increase exponentially?

Also, as the WHO says nobody really understands what this Virus actually is, or what it will be yet. Like research chemicals this is a 'research Virus' with unknown side effects. It may later mutate or become more deadly, it may already have mutated and become more deadly...

As the Nazis proved, the measure of a civilized society is how it treats its weakest citizens.

To allow as many people as possible to get this Virus, is to allow as many as possible to die, as it obviously follows that one will be directly proportional to the other. More Infected= more deaths. The UK government basically decided to knock off as many of its old people as possible. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is what would or will happen if (good) people do nothing.

An absolutely criminal policy, that thankfully due to people and leaders within the community (from the queen, to old folks homes and the premiership) the UK was able to resist and force the governments hand.

Interesting thing about this crisis is that as it affects everyone, it transcends party lines and supersedes politics. Journalist hacks will perhaps no longer obligingly pump out the government's propaganda unquestioningly, when their own families lives are at stake. It is finally an issue that local politicians and the media will genuinely feel moved and angered enough by, to actually take action.

According to the Spotdata analytics - Spain is going in even worse direction than Italy, the pandemy is bigger there than in Italy in the exact same time since the pandemy began. France is more or less on Italy level.

I have no fear of this virus particularly. My fear is social disorder from cabin fever or an economic depression, the disorder is already exploding in stores across the world and this just got started. The biggest problem in my opinion is that a majority of the world population does not have the means to hunker down for even a week let alone a month or (god forbid) eight weeks. My friend's wife works for 911 dispatch (an American couple) so she has first hand knowledge of public reaction, she has been in this profession for 23 years and said the fear and the anxiety is by far the worst she has ever felt. she is extremely worried about social disorder. the line between order and disorder is not a big gap...Stay sane people!

It's all well and good criticising government for making the wrong decisions or listening to the "wrong expert advice"

An excellent post. Parliament needs to convene to discuss and debate for the benefit of the British public they represent. These decisions cannot be made by a ruling party alone. Millions of lives are at risk here, obviously we all can't agree. Democracy is robust enough to deal with this at times like these however.

Unilateral decision making may appear to be decisive leadership but in reality it's the opposite. And undermines the democratic process. Cool heads, bipartisan discussions will ensure that the effects are minimized.

It's a challenge for all of us, personally, our family and loved ones. It is a challenge that history has taught us that can be overcome but only by working together.
