Their economy is exploding, the innovation, around manufacturing, pharma, telecommunications, engineering, technology is outstanding. Its a beautiful rich place They have embarked on an investment programme of investing in other countries to, there will soon be a land bridge to the deep water ports of turkey, an energy pipe line from Russia and a land bridge all the way through central Europe to London. All Chinese investment and innovation. Their strategic planning is superb, you only have to look how they have dealt with this they are streamlined and flexible.

Gone are the days of heavy communism its capitalist Communism now a hybrid approach which as much personal freedom as we have in the west with less things privatized. Of course its different, but its very responsive and flexible with as much freedoms as we have here.

One thing i find interesting about Covid is how quick capitalist countries abandoned the philosophy to go for a communist approach.
There's no doubting the fact that the plan is superior to the market in order to get things done...especially when threatened.

As I said, I think largely the liberal 'freedoms' 'enjoyed' in the west are a chimera; we dont really choose who rules us or how we live. In the post war years built on the order brought about by the agreement at Breton Wood, those living in western societies enjoyed a decent standard of living, and the working class had a real say in how their economies were set up. That's been rolled back since the late 70s and we live in rancid societies where consumerism has taken the place of demcoracy.

I'm not sure the Chinese state is the answer, I do know that anyone comparing it unfavourably with the west are deluding themselves.

As above mate.

That seems a somewhat rose-tinted perspective. They have been notorious for stealing intellectual property and have frozen many western firms out of their domestic market. While they have undoubtedly had corporate successes overseas, and have got firms that are genuinely innovative, their biggest firms, such as Tencent and Alibaba, are almost solely domestic. Tencent, for instance, could easily sell overseas as their products are no harder to scale than Facebook's, yet derive just 23% of all revenue internationally. By contrast, Facebook make twice that from overseas markets.

With regards to freedoms. I challenge you to question the party on a regular basis to see how free you are. Heck, I'd challenge you to apply any of the kind of GDPR-related freedoms we have in Europe to the social credit system, or even gain any understanding into how your 'score' is calculated.

Think I saw two people wearing masks today, out of what must have been close on 1,000 riders (I was not one of the mask wearers).

...which is why we'll see a massive second wave over here. When sensible people like cyclists have no discipline there's no way that the rabble will hold the line.

I can't speak for other cyclists, but I suspect in terms of transmitting/catching the virus, I would be far closer to other people, for far longer, if I went for a walk around my local park tonight.

When you're on a bike you're using deeper breathing than on a walk.

When you're on a bike you're using deeper breathing than on a walk.

But you need to be close to someone who has it, for more than a fleeting moment, to get it from them.

Or from surfaces, if you are really unlucky.
