Therefore, we have test result numbers aren't entirely as they're being described (inflated), test data going missing (locally) and the tracing system a month away...

... from where it will be fully operational. I'm less bothered about how this impacts on Johnson's rhetoric, but more what it means about how we'll manage cases.

With schools and businesses scheduled for reopening before then, we really need a comprehensive system in place to manage the guaranteed rise in cases.

100%. How countries like South Korea and Germany have had little outbreaks pop up repeatedly shows how vital it is the test trace and isolate system is up and running and effective.

Surely testing largely folk who have come into contact with COVID-19 positive people in a work setting such as nurses will give disproportionate results though?

If they have say 10 million tests would have made more sense to send them in the post to 10 million random people and record the results.
It would probably give you more idea about the generation of antibodies though- in some studies antibody generation is poor.

But why roll it out in the same way of the swab testing?

It feels like the vast majority of us thoroughout this whole process have been told to stay at home and play with yourself if you have symptoms whereas the elite and "key workers" are given priority which is fine in a lockdown setting as the rest of us are at home locked away safe.

But when everything starts to reopen from June 15th as far as im concerned all of us deserve the chance to know if we've had the virus so those who live with vulnerable people know how much "risk" they can take ie. Going on the bus to work is less risky if you know you have antibodies for the virus than having not yet had it.

Seems like perfect sense to me. I wouldn't go near public transport as things are currently. Being told to put on a mask (and I live close to my local train station, the vast majority of people are not wearing one) and asked to bear a level of risk that is considered unacceptably high in most other contexts is not on really.

There is no such thing as zero risk, but still a big organisational and logistical job to implement anything and everything for the population as a whole that can mitigate risk to the largest degree possible.

An antibody test is something else that would provide a greater level of mitigation and confidence. Thats what the next 12 months are all about - co-existing with this virus whilst progressively gaining as much control as possible over its spread.

An announcement to get Cummings out of the news, maybe?

It's a shame and tragedy that this was stopped in March. And with them opening up the country more, without widespread and reliable test, trace and isolate arrangements there will be a spike.
It's not tragic mate, there was no inevitability in how this pandemic has cost so many UK lives and has become endemic within our isles, it's the result of decisions made by government.

These people are running the country and are just laughing at us plebs.

If we don’t stand up to this now, we will continue to have our rights watered down.

How anyone could vote for this party, especially those from a working class background, is beyond me. Should be ashamed.

Just when you think you can't hate him anymore there he is providing more ammunition. It'd be lovely if him, Johnson, Gove and Cummings were locked in a room with just a small number of family members of those that have died and see where their lies and laughter got them.

Been at work but reading that Nick Robinson might have given Hancock a booting in another interview this morning, did anyone see it?

'*serious face* Look...I am sorry you have had to experience that, but it is...it is...it is, indeed paramount TO the safety of our great nation that we...we....we.., that is to say all of us, that we EACH do our civic duty to ensure your extraordinary sacrifices are not in vain...the important thing now is we move on and we all do what is necessary'

Im not surprised they’re laughing. The last week has proven to them that they can sell any old BS to the public and get away with it. They know now they’re untouchable and will have free reign to lie about anything they please.

She should have cut in when he started laughing his bollocks off and said: "Excuse me, you do realise that 63,000 people have been killed by your inaction dont you Mr HanCOCK, and that you laughing adds to the insanity of you and your govermnet's handling of this crisis?"
