Michael Gove says he has driven to test his eyesight as he defends Dominic Cummings.

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove defended his former protege Dominic Cummings today in an interview during which he said he too had taken drives to test his eyesight.

Cummings yesterday defended his sighting at Barnard Castle in County Durham during the height of lockdown by saying he and his wife and child had taken a test drive to make sure his eyesight was ok ahead of a planned return to the capital then next day.

Gove was asked on LBC radio if he has ever taken similar drives to test his eyesight.

“I have on occasions in the past driven with my wife in order to make sure…what’s the right way of putting it,” Gove said before being interrupted by an incredulous presenter.

“People would know me would know I am not an authority on driving,” Gove added.

For god's sake you maniacs! Nobody was buying it yesterday and nobody is buying it today!

This is going down in history in the same file as Mellor's Chelsea shirt, John Major's underpants, Mandleson's mushy peas and Gordon Brown abolishing boom and bust.

We're talking about supposedly highly intelligent people here and they can't see that a 60 mile round trip to test your eyesight is a slightly odd way of going about things. I wouldn't lose any sleep if a load of them got ploughed into by a bus, with the driver using the excuse that he was out on a test drive making sure his eyesight was up to scratch before going on his normal routes.

When this lot have finally finished digging themselves to China at least we'll have assembled a task force to look into that lab the Yanks are so obsessed with.
