Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Oh come on mate. Despite what 95% of what people on here claim, the instructions on what you must do have always been abundantly clear.

Stay at home and self isolate for 7 days if you have or suspect you have the virus.
Stay at home and self isolate for 14 days if somebody else in your household has or suspects they have the virus.

As part of the inner circle of politicians and advisors who came up with that mantra, it was Cummings duty and responsibility to abide by it to the letter. So technically, he not only broke that rule but also the rule relating to essential travel.

Fully agree with the second part of your post though. If somebody so senior couldn't arrange support for his child what chance have the rest of us got :).

Also, does anybody on here really believe that Cummings wasn't tested for covid. Of course he was which meant he had it. The fact that he then travelled over 200 miles to a different part of the country, a journey in which he would have had to have made at least 1 comfort stop seeing as he had a young child with him.

Calderwood and Ferguson were guilty of far less demeanours (i.e. they didn't actually have the disease) and quite rightly resigned.

I hope you have read my other posts mate.

....as often happens this is about partisan politics rather than right and wrong.

If Cummings was a Labour official, Tory sympathises would be labelling his actions a disgrace. They are not doing so because he’s a Conservative.

Over 30,000 people have died and the public has largely obeyed Government advice to try and keep a lid on the pandemic. What Cummings did was wrong. Take party loyalty out of the situation because it’s indefensible.
I'm sure that @peteblue will take a less biased approach and slate DC.

Government advice from the beginning of the outbreak is that the elderly are the most at risk from covid19, and were instructed to self isolate for their own safety.
Knowing that he had symptoms, possibly knowing that he actually had been infected, what callous disregard he showed for the lives of his parents to have driven to their home.

Friends I know were in his exact situation, actually.. They had 2 kids they didn't leave their house as they knew it was the wrong thing to do, they are livid
Tens, possibly hundreds of thousands of people around the country will have been in the same situation at some stage over the last 10 weeks, and stayed at home as they were told. Anybody who didn't and were found out would have been ostracised.

The fact that it is Cummings, well you just couldn't make it up.

The fact that government ministers are supporting and defending him is just staggering. Do they have absolutely no conception of how this looks?

The reason I ask is that it does make you think differently. Several on here have said they do have kids, and in similar situations, but still obeyed the lockdown, as indeed have I (my granddaughter lives with me btw). But it changes your viewpoint depending on circumstances and availability of support. Both adults were ill. Was it stupid to go to his parents, especially as he would have known that it would get out, absolutely. Now ask what his parents would have said had he not gone home, in my opinion they would have been worried sick and probably driven down to see him and his wife. Had it been the opposite way around and it was his parents that were ill, his parents would have ordered him to stay away, no argument. It’s the way it works, you obey your parents and they don’t have to obey you.......
When my parents drove to see me when I was ill, I sent them away. They didn't have a choice whether to listen or not as I didn't give them the chance.

The fella had no chance there. They knew it would be a roasting so sent out a lesser cabinet member. Predictable
Despite all the shenanigans going on, I suspect it was pre planned who would be up there today. Sunday is usually a no news day and they often have some secondary minister heading up the news conference.

Then again that may be just me being gullible as usual ;)

Ha. I've totally lost the plot. It's only Saturday isn't it. lol

So I reckon if he had to travel 300 miles then he would need fuel. That would require a stop at a petrol station, so Cummings is cv19 positive is swanning around a petrol station shedding virus spores aots.

Guilty. Hang him!
I wouldn't go along with the hang him bit but otherwise spot on ;)

From the BBC's report on this:

Labour's Rachel Reeves said: "The British people do not expect there to be one rule for them and another rule for the prime minister's most senior adviser."

It maybe should read:

Labour's Rachel Reeves said: "The British people do not expect there to be one rule for them and another rule for the establishment apart from Tories who think that it is their birthright."

That's all too cordial.

Typical of new New Labour.

The headline was, deffo.

But the guidance/instruction also said that vulnerable individuals could be moved if support might be needed. (I didnt know that till I read it earlier, hence laboured under the same instruction as you).;

edit. Anyrate, bloke is a rat all ends up, and the RS are on telly soon; some league decider from 1989. Wonder how that went.
I didn't know that mate. I'll guarantee that the vast majority of Joe Public didn't know that either which will undoubtedly lead to even more anger. Which brings int question what is a vulnerable individual. Well children don't get the virus badly. So the child wouldn't have become vulnerable unless both parents became seriously ill with it. Deal with the problem then. Don't drive over 200 miles spreading the virus on the way.
