Is that what they've actually said? Rightly or wrongly, I know they'll probably be trying to protect their members, but I suspect things like this won't help their cause.

The last thing they need to do is alienate the majority of people, who probably support or appreciate their decision, by stopping the learning that has took place.

Think so. Like, there may be really good reasons why, not being a teacher I wouldnt know. So not having a pop, genuinely curious.

Ah even worse then.

In my area, people were starting to ignore the rules for at least 2 weeks before Boris' speech. That's why I thought the messaging needed to change to very clear rules on keeping our distance. The stay at home slogan was being ignored so I didn't see the point in keeping it and making sure people learn how to distance properly is going to be key going forward.

There's always going to be lockdown fatigue, which is actually why I think easing certain leisure activities is more important to do than schools at the moment.

I'd even be for people being allowed to see and visit family members as long as they use sensible social distancing precautions in relation to other people at this point. Makes more sense to do than opening schools, allowing football to return or sending masses of people on public transport imo.

According to the wife, The NEU is the result of the NUT and ATL amalgamating. In her words, slightly less militant but not by much, so that may answer it @roydo.

The NUT were a right bunch of maniacs at one point. Really obsessed with bringing international politics into classrooms. I remember picking up one of their magazines when my ex wife was still teaching and flicking to "Which education systems can the UK learn from?" thinking it would be a decent read by an educational policy maker. The two examples they picked of all the nations on earth were Cuba and Gaza.

Ta. So concerns over online security pretty much. Thats fair enough.
Ah, that's quite different from what I suspect it may have been: basically a response to the government's advice. Skimming over the article, it seems quite sensible.

For example, I know there's been a lot of reported incidents on Zoom, and even when there's been passwords because a cache of passwords are the dark web.

We're talking about really serious incidents of child abuse being shown or grown men getting their bits out in front of kids - all being seriously investigated.

It seems a bit of a flimsy excuse tbh. Firstly, if you insist on using Zoom, there are approaches you can use to prevent any unwanted access (for instance setting meetings up so the organiser (teacher) approves everyone that joins). Secondly, there are, of course, platforms that are secure. The wife does breastfeeding consultations virtually, and obviously you don't want unwanted husbands people looking at those.

Oh wow. That’s disgraceful. And completely understandable.

Well I would class all of that under the title of "concerns over online security".
