Must say I’m still confused as to where the hell this consensus has come from that everyone needs to go back to work today. Pretty sure it was a case of if you can’t work from home and your workplace is actually open.

After a quick spike in infections in Germany it seems to be going down after lockdown has been lifted compared to the height of the virus. The fatality rate hasn’t shot back up there, so not sure why it would here?

I suppose the devil will be in the detail. I thought that was largely the case anyway, hence why people like @arminisgod have been working still. Hopefully whatever guidance is published today will clear it up, as the communicae last night was pretty poor.

Given that they've said they didn't expect the public to behave themselves quite so much, however, a part of me does wonder if the herd strategy hasn't become as widespread as a result. As the epidemiologist in the article I posted a bit earlier said back in February, there's no real way of stopping this until we get a vaccine, so any notion that this will be stopped before then seems naive, and yet people still seem to look at other nations and think they've cracked this and that's it, job done, they'll be going back to normal. I'm not sure that's going to be the case at all.

Great article, though it does tiptoe a bit around the elephant in the room that is politicians (who are the common denominator between cuts, failing to protect / create emergency provision and messaging).

That's an underlying weakness in our democracy though isn't it? When we give politicians a term limit of 4 or 5 years, it kinda forces them to think only in that timeframe. Adequate disaster preparation requires a slightly longer-term perspective that few politicians will ever sign up for.

Yeah, it’s odd. The amount of tradesmen zipping about the past few weeks has definitely gone up, but now there seems to be a consensus from the government that it’s okay, suddenly it’s bad? Buses have been running throughout, but now they are also bad and how dare the government suggest we use them, when actually the direct opposite was said.

Essentially a Video in style of a airplane safety Video was needed to explain what was going on. Not Boris rambling.

Surely we should at a minimum expect that politicians will protect the country, rather than prioritise only the things that benefit them?

You can go to work tomorrow on Goverment advice but also be fined for it on Goverment advice.

What is very telling is Scotland, Wales have politely broke ranks and distanced themselves from Englands management, I found it interesting that Johnson had to say he was “prime minister of the whole UK” and argue his rank, once you have to say and argue “I am the king“, you are not the king.

Something I never thought I’d see is even the DUP and Arlene Foster breaking from a Tory run England in terms of wanting to be aligned with England, that is simply massive and indicative of the general toxicity of how this approach is being viewed even by the most ardent allies.

How can you be fined going to work? That has never been a rule.
