Phoned home this evening to chat the lockdown.
On the Wirral, out of just over 600 clients, 190 now died in the care sector operated by step mums company.
Absolutely incredible numbers.. and clearly having an effect on those looking after them.
( all old with underlying conditions to be precise )

Many people and even seen it echoed here will have little or no empathy whatsoever for the staff, just something that they should be used to or predisposed to seeing, thus will cope.

Sending Reception and Year 1 children back to school in June. Is he honestly joking. Year 6 fine but these little ones have no idea what's going on and it will be impossible to social distance them all. Ridiculous idea.

And only for a few weeks till summer hols start or do they cancel them and make the kids do a longer term?

Been trying to steer clear of the conspiracy theories around this being a deliberate strategy to kill people off. But it’s becoming increasingly hard not to think it now after that. The mask has well and truly slipped.

It was convenient for us to think them as incompetent. They’ve been that for 10 years and still walked last election. Being incompetent is not a bad thing for a Tory party it seems. But this latest debacle well and truly sets out their true intentions. Giving the green light for companies up and down the country to re-open, thus putting workers (with children) in the unenviable position of choosing between quitting their job or passing their children to grand parents. Is it cynical to think they hope for the later for obvious reasons? Throw in the care home and community situation and you’ve got a host of deliberate policies designed to do the opposite of protect a certain age group.

Confused. So if we reduced the R factor to the current level by lockdown, we surely can’t get to the next level by more social contact (without significant levels of immunity). More social contact mean R factor goes up!

Not quite.

If we assume that today the R is currently 0.7, and we've currently got 100,000 people infectious in the country, then those 100k people will infect 70k people and the number of new cases a day will drop

But, if R rises to 0.9, those 100k people will infect 90k people, and the number of new cases a day will still drop, but it'll drop at a slower rate.

Also, as more people get infected, then, all other things being equal, R will very slowly drop by itself because some of the people who would originally have got infected, have already been infected and should, hopefully anyway, be immune.

No idea. I get schools need to slowly start opening up again and was expecting Year 6 but Reception and Year 1 is just stupidity at its finest. It needs to be done in stages and with ways to keep the kids, parents and staff safe. Honestly baffled. As there hasn't even been guidance to what you are meant to do with the staff who can't even come back because they are shielding and at high risk.

It's a good idea, but it will never fly - personally looking at the prospect of looking after my child for another 3 and a half months - and having to work at the same time - clueless how I'm going to achieve this other than week on week off with the missus.
