Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The Placebo effect can skew the results of trials because some patients could potentially have different results/responses to treatment based on whether or not they think they have received the vaccine.

This kind of practice is standard in drug trials everywhere and has been for decades.
Thank you. That explains it much better than the first reply fella.

I'm not one to naively think politicians won't take advantage where they can, but I can assure you anyone who has been seriously ill with Coronavirus, and that doesn't mean just those who have had to be on ventilators, will need plenty of recuperation time, especially one so obviously fat, out of condition and therefore susceptible to slow recovery as him.

Doctors don't take precautions just on a whim.

The responses in this thread are all too predictable and mostly nonsense - just letting their natural bias rule over any common sense.

(And I don't think he's anything like really weak now but it's still medically sound to not rush back, with politicians they no doubt would for the right moment but they still shouldn't)

This virus shouldn't be treated as if its nothing, it effects very overweight people disproportionally, they really are susceptible
Here's the problem with that: I dont believe Johnson ON ANYTHING. And I dont believe anyone speaking about his condition in any position of seniority. Do you know why? Because he has lied through his 'kin teeth on too many occasions and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, and neither do the medical team who he's surrounded himself with.

Has he had a bad bout of this? No one knows other than him and the handpicked consultants who dealt with him. What we do know is that he's well capable of clocking off and delegating to mugs who carry the can for him. My hunch is that he's sat this out. MIA when the country is ferociously attacked. A coward.

Bollocks to Johnson anyway. When his governement have been responsible for tens of thousands more deaths in this country than was necessary, I could give a flying one about his well being.

Really, really predictable.

See Oxford Uni are confident of developing a vaccine which could be in place by September.

Question to everyone. If it was rolled out would you sign up?

Im going to say no. Im not an anti vaxxer at all, but the long term effects of this will be unknown. If I end up in intensive care then its a no brainer but I think thats the only circumstance I would say yes.

The vaccine won’t do a thing for you once you’ve been infected. It doesn’t treat an infection. Vaccines prevent you becoming infected or at least mitigate the infection so up you end up with a more mild infection.

We already know how to make vaccines...likely much about this vaccine will be the same as the flu vaccine except the viral particle will be from SARS CoV2.

look who the Mail have finally latched on to.....

”This is the senior civil servant running the company at the centre of Britain's PPE coronavirus shambles, MailOnline can reveal.

Jin Sahota, 52, is the £200,000-a-year chief executive of Supply Chain Co-ordination Limited (SCCL) which is the management arm of the NHS supply operation.

It was set up by the Department of Health in 2018 to improve the way the NHS buys and distributes healthcare products – including protective equipment.“

I said he was too junior.....

There is a SARS vaccine. It wasn’t mass produced because by the time they had it, SARS was gone. Without an ongoing risk for SARS there was no money in making the vaccine available.

Yes there are similar types of viruses such as MERS and SARS, there was some development done which produces a basic 'stem' for want of a better less medical term, this hasn't been wasted and has been used in the efforts to develop a vaccine for Covid-19 - it gave developers a start so it wasn't from scratch at all.

The speed of getting something tested is quite remarkable, and far, far quicker than it would normally take - global cooperation has been at the heart of the progress but also past research in Asia has helped.

of course he is too junior pete, you need to look at who put him there and why that structure was considered acceptable

You don’t just get it for yourself. You get it to protect others. Immune suppressed folks can’t always get vaccines, cancer patients, babies, etc...

Oh yeah I get that now, I said in a later post I was a bit rash in saying that from a personal selfish point of view.
