Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I can see now the next few weeks that people will be coming out and saying they have the virus as a badge of honour rather than anything else. Anyone famous who needs a moment in the papers will come out and announce they have it

With the papers then not running the fact they aren't really that sick with it and it's not the end of the world........

My issue with all of this is not the coverage believe it or not. It's the lack of balanced coverage that annoys me so much. If the media presented this with a sense of honesty and said X number have it , but tbh they are mostly fine so it's not serious , completely different story.

Compared to the lack of information backing the numbers
I hadn't considered the other side of the media which seems to be starting

Kylian mbappe has been tested for the Corona virus but early signs suggest he hasn't got it.

.............

There's your hysteria . Rather than people claiming to have it, the media are going to be throwing famous name and suggesting they may or may not have it.

It's a good point.

Everyone is talking about the fatality rate of disease, but the amount of fatalities that may occur from unrelated issues due to the overstretching of NHS resources could also be fairly large as well.

Or even younger ones who may not be in critical condition but may require extra oxygen. Not all survivors have just miraculously cured themselves, some hzve required varioud levels of hospitalisation.

If all the beds and oxygen is being took up by critical care patients, what happens? You probably have to ride it out or wait until you get worse.

I may be wrong, but I don't often hear of Chinese migrant factor workers jetting off to Italy? You mean on holiday?

Chinese media definitely is anti-American, as the American media is anti-Chinese (tit-for-tat). Trade war going on and it's very bitter. But the Chinese media would be right in this case, as the response to this virus especially in America is pathetic.

Generalizations such as 'the Chinese' did this, or the Chinese did that, are always absurd if you think about them though. My wife is Chinese, and she didn't do anything!

They are working in Italy, mainly fashion and textile industry, legally and illegally. Your wife would be able to explain what it meant to be back home in China during Chinese New Year. It’s huge and most important festival for Chinese and celebration last for days.

The state media not only mock the caucasians, even Korea and Japanese were not spared. The general tone amongst media echo China as the victim and some even suggest the virus originated from Italy. I can understand anti American and vice versa, but mocking Europe and Italy?

Ironically, Chinese in Italy are trying to return to China and they face mandatory quarantine as we speak.

Of cos not all Chinese are behaving like this. Some of my chinese colleagues are sick of the communist behaviour but most of them are nationalist in a twisted way, all thanks to Chinese propaganda.

Wonder how long it’s been doing the rounds, know quite a few people had all the symptoms in early January (none been abroad), quite ill with high temperatures for a week and then rough / fatigued for a couple of weeks with a cough and chest infection like symptoms, all based near / in Liverpool. All perfectly fine after a few weeks. Does make you wonder ...

Basically, it's incredibly contagious from the point of contraction (you can spread it even before you show symptoms)

Doesn't seem to affect kids and young people under 18 although they are still contagious.

Wearing masks and gloves in public is useless as it is primarily airborne.

Various pandemic think-tanks have been warning about something like this for years, but little notice has been taken.

Quarantining people on cruise liners is the worst thing you can do.

This is only the very early stages and may take 3-7 months before it starts to die down.

Has the potential to kill 15/20% more people globally than seasonal influenza.

Getting a vaccine this early is a pipe dream.

Over 55's and those with serious pre-existing health conditions should try to stay at home as much as possible.

The USA gets a ridiculous amount of it's medicine made in and imported from China, so if it all goes to hell there, the USA will be in big trouble.

BUT... we shouldn't panic.

What happens is that hospitals will have to prioritise ITU beds and ventilators to those cases deemed more worthy.....

People still don’t seem to get it over here. It’s happening before our eyes in other countries and yet we’re shrugging and treating it with the standard level of exceptionalism that seems to be an inherent trait on these shores.

Circa 10% of Italian cases have required hospitalisation and people are still thinking that they’re somehow overreacting by going into lockdown to try and reduce the potentially exponential community spread.

Thick as mince.

It's easy to associate (or confuse) the common symptoms of Covid-19 with other respiratory conditions: fever; headaches; throat aches or infections; fever et al.

In reality, they probably weren't Covid-19, yet rather a virus with similar symptoms (the common ones) but much less virulent in its transfer rate and/or lethality.

I felt crap a few weeks ago with a sore chest, coughing up crap, fever and the other symptoms, which took a good week to clear, but I've felt like that many times.

Should we then be doing what China have done, build portable hospitals ? We as a country just seem to be sitting on our hands, waiting for events to turn worse. Wash your hands ? When this can be caught by someone just breathing on you, terrifying really.

But I don't know why it upsets you so much? Why not get angry at nationalistic idiots in America and American propaganda on Fox News? Plenty of twisted and brainwashed idiots on both sides. Hell, England and America alike are after 2 decades of post 911 propaganda, infested with toxic individuals every bit as nationalistic and deluded.

why not just rise above it?
