I`ll bite.

For decades the history that is taught to kids in UK schools, centres around the Vikings, the Romans, etc the Tudors, the Victorians etc, then the First and Second World Wars.

It`s not until degree level that young people here go anywhere near Russian history.

Bloody hell, that would be a long post. But I'll try and condense it.

Largely they didn't like over mighty monarchs, had a wee stramash with the crown. Won due to geography and tactical innovation. Set up a loose formation of states with the worlds first (and at the time most progressive) written constitution which left them woefully unprepared for the niceties of running a young country.

Set about exploring and expanding. Were rather beastly to the natives. Exploited the natural resources and endless immigrant (not to mention slave) labour to become one of the richer nations on earth.

Decided to clamp down on the rising political and economic power of the south eastern states using slavery as their lever. Had a brutal civil war which the right side won.

Then the summer holidays came along and I never did find out how it ended because a man in a Lenin hat told me i was only allowed to learn about tractor production.
